Tom Brady and Tampa survived a scare against Atlanta last week, while the Steelers nightmarish start to the season continued as they got spanked by the Bills. Pittsburgh (1-4, 0-2 home) hosts Brady and the Bucs (3-2, 2-0 away) after getting run over, 38-3 last week.

The NFL odds are favoring Tampa in a big way, and the spread now sits at 9.5 with the public betting heavily on the road team. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm ET at Acrisure Stadium on what looks like a beautiful fall day. The forecast is calling for sunshine and 64-degree temperatures, with the wind at 12.3 mph.

FOX will be providing the coverage for this tilt. Let’s take a look at all the odds below and preview this game while revealing our best bet and prediction in the Buccaneers vs Steelers NFL odds.

Fans in Pittsburgh probably aren’t used to seeing the Steelers as -9.5 point underdogs at home, but this team looks worse with each passing week. The public bettors are noticing the porous play, with 76% of the public backing the Bucs to win comfortably and cover the spread.

This contest features a total of 47 points, between a Steelers squad that only managed a field goal last week and a Tampa team that has hit the under in four of their five games so far this year.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers Betting Analysis

It seems as if the Bucs have stumbled on the perfect opponent in Week 6, since they have not resembled a team that can win a 2nd Super Bowl in three seasons in the early going. The offense in particular has struggled with Julio Jones and Chris Godwin in and out of the lineup, and no sign of Rob Gronkowski coming out of retirement…yet.

Tom Brady has put up big fantasy numbers over the last two games, but most of the damage he did against the Chiefs two weeks ago was with the game already out of hand. Last week, the Bucs had a 21-0 lead, but an extremely questionable roughing the passer penalty by Grady Jarrett saved them from perhaps choking it away.

One thing you can’t question about this Tampa team is the impressive defensive unit. Save for Patrick Mahomes revenge game in Week 4, the Bucs only allowed 42 points in their other four contests. That’s only 10.5 points per game. Led by linebacker Devin White, the team has 19 combined sacks, good for third in the league.

That spells trouble for Pittsburgh and rookie Kenny Pickett, who will only be making his second career start on Sunday.

Pittsburgh Steelers Betting Outlook

Pickett had a debut to forget after coming in for Mitch Trubisky against the Jets a couple of weeks ago. Luck wasn’t on the freshman’s side as he threw three picks in his debut. He followed that up with another interception last week and has yet to throw his first career touchdown, although he has run a couple majors in.

To add to the concern for Pittsburgh, they’ll be missing one of their best playmakers on the defensive side of the ball in safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. The two-time first-team all-pro leads the squad with three picks, but was ruled out with a knee injury, joining three other members of the Steelers secondary on the sidelines.

Offensively, Pittsburgh was expected to struggle a bit with a changing of the guard at the quarterback position. However, with injuries to key players on defense as well, it’s been tough sledding on both sides of the ball. The offense ranks 30th in the league in points per game, while the defense is 26th in points allowed.

That’s not exactly a recipe for success and it might be wise not to rush last year’s defensive player of the year, leader T.J. Watt back from injury anytime soon. It’s looking like a lost season for the black and yellow.

Buccaneers vs Steelers Prediction

Whether you’re a Steelers fan or not, it was kind of stunning to see how dramatically bad the team was last week. It kind of appears like there is no end in sight, but Mike Tomlin is a proud coach and his players will go through a wall for him.

The NFL public betting trends and statistics all point to Tampa as the smart play this week, but it feels like it might be a good call to fade and go with Pittsburgh. There’s no analytics to back this up; it just feels a little unlikely this side gets run over at home after last week’s performance.

Too many trends point against Pittsburgh, but all the trends DO point to this being a low-scoring affair between two teams who haven’t been able to score a lot this year. The Bucs have only put up over 21 points once, and although the Steelers’ secondary is depleted, it’s hard to see these teams combining to score over 46 points on Sunday.

Pick: Under 46 (-112), 1 unit
