- Oddsmakers list eight NFC teams with better odds to make the playoffs than miss out
- The list includes all six teams that were postseason participants a year ago
- Those six are joined by the 49ers and Packers
When it comes to the NFC playoffs, odds give eight NFC teams a better chance to make the playoffs than miss out. The list includes all six 2018 NFC playoff teams – the New Orleans Saints, Los Angeles Rams, Seattle Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears – plus the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers.
With only six playoff spots available, it’s a guarantee that at least two of those eight will miss the postseason. Do any stand out as teams to fade in the NFL playoff odds?
NFC Teams Odds To Make NFL Playoffs
Team | Odds To Make Playoffs | Odds To Miss Playoffs |
---|---|---|
Chicago Bears | -135 | +105 |
Dallas Cowboys | -220 | +165 |
Green Bay Packers | -145 | +110 |
Los Angeles Rams | -350 | +245 |
New Orleans Saints | -450 | +300 |
Philadelphia Eagles | -135 | +105 |
San Francisco 49ers | -135 | +105 |
Seattle Seahawks | -125 | -105 |

Returning to the NFC playoffs was a 50-50 proposition last season. Three teams that made it into postseason play the previous campaign earned a return trip: the Saints, Rams and Eagles.
Expect that trio to make it three straight in 2019.
These NFC Teams Will Make The Playoffs
New Orleans Saints (-450)
In the two weeks since Drew Brees went down with a thumb injury, the Saints are 2-0, and they beat two teams on this list of expected playoff participants (Seahawks & Cowboys).
Imagine if the roles were reversed.
Would you trust Dallas to win at home with Cooper Rush vs Drew Brees and the Saints?
The difference in coaching between Dallas and New Orleans is massive.

They outscored Seattle 33-27 and gutted out a 12-10 decision over Dallas. Their defense and special teams were phenomenal in both games.
Green Bay Packers (-145)
The Pack were knocked from the ranks of the unbeaten last week by the Eagles. They’ll get another tough test on the road this week against the Cowboys.

Green Bay is still a top-10 NFL defense and the Packers own a solid +4 turnover ratio.
Philadelphia Eagles (-135)
The Super Bowl 52 champions looked a lot more like the team that’s been to the postseason the last two years in last week’s win at Green Bay.
"Is it possible to be a Super Bowl winning head coach and still underrated? Doug Pederson's beaten Bill Belichick in a Super Bowl, he's never lost to Sean McVay, and he's now 5-0 on Thursday Night Football. The @Eagles HC belongs in the 'best coaches' conversation." – @PSchrags pic.twitter.com/h0zTBrH92g

The Eagles displayed a power game on both sides of the ball. Philly rushed for 176 yards. Quarterback Carson Wentz passed for three touchdowns. Defensively, the Eagles were stout on a pair of goal-line stands in the fourth quarter with the game on the line.
Seattle Seahawks (-125)
Seahawks QB Russell Wilson is putting up massive numbers.
One-handed pick 6 for Jadeveon Clowney.

Defensive end Jadeveon Clowney is proving to be the defensive playmaker Seattle anticipated when adding him in a trade with Houston.
Dallas Cowboys (-220)
After taking advantage of three cupcakes for an unbeaten start, the Cowboys were given a reality check last week by the Saints.
.@dallascowboys @EzekielElliott averaged <2 yards/rush on 18 carries!! How/Why? Watch the @saints front 4 go about their business. They anchored the LOS and give up real estate grudgingly. Maybe a few inches of movement. #whodat pack a defense. #BaldysBreakdowns pic.twitter.com/oPyiVOCj3d

The NFC East is a dismal bunch, though. There’s still enough easy pickings out there to get Dallas into the playoffs.
San Francisco 49ers (-135)
There’s only one NFL team that can say it suits up a top-four offense and a top-four defense. That’s the 49ers.
The NFL's last remaining undefeated teams:
– New England Patriots
– Kansas City Chiefs
– San Francisco 49ers pic.twitter.com/nH23Kodx5I— Matt Vereen (@MattVereen) October 1, 2019
They’re the third-best defense (283.3 yards per game) and the #4 offense (421 ypg).
These NFC Teams Will Miss The Playoffs
Two teams must go. But which two teams? These two.
Chicago Bears (+105)
The Bears are this year’s version of the Jacksonville Jaguars – all defense and no offense.
The @ChicagoBears are now 5-1 when scoring fewer than 20 points since 2018.
The rest of the NFL is 28-186 in such games in that span entering Sunday night.
— NFL Research (@NFLResearch) September 30, 2019
Chicago is the NFL’s #5 defense (290.8 ypg). But the Bears are 30th overall in offense (273.5 ypg) and are down to backup QB Chase Daniels for the foreseeable future. That might not be a huge step down from Mitch Trubisky, but it’s not a step up, either.
Los Angeles Rams (+245)
Todd Gurley isn’t the Todd Gurley of old thanks to an arthritic knee. Aaron Donald isn’t playing like the Defensive Player of the Year he was in 2018. And Jared Goff was a turnover machine in last week’s home loss to Tampa Bay.
The Buccaneers’ 55 pts vs. the Rams are the most against a team that entered the game 3-0 or better in NFL history 😮 #SCFacts

You can’t give up 55 points to the Buccaneers and make the playoffs. No, really. It’s right there in the NFL bylaws.
