No Faith in Minshew Mania, Still Believing in Brady

The Tennessee Titans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been installed as the biggest favorites in Week 2.

The Titans are 10.5-point choices over the visiting Jacksonville Jaguars. The Buccaneers are the next biggest favorite, laying 8.5 at home against the Carolina Panthers.

The Titans are double-digit favorites, though they have yet to take the field. They open their season Monday night against the Broncos at Denver.

Meanwhile, the supposedly tanking Jaguars stunned the Indianapolis Colts 27-20 on Sunday at home despite being seven-point underdogs. Gardner Minshew completed 19 of 20 passes and threw for three touchdowns.

Tampa Bay lost in Tom Brady’s much-anticipated Buccaneers’ debut Sunday, falling 34-23 on the road to the New Orleans Saints as four-point underdogs. Brady was intercepted twice.

Eagles Open as Smallest Favorite of Week 2

The slimmest line is the 2.5 points the homestanding Philadelphia Eagles are spotting the Los Angeles Rams.

The Eagles had an ugly season-opening lost Sunday, falling 27-17 on the road to the Washington Football team despite being favored by 5.5 points. The Rams host the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night as they christen SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif.

The Colts, despite being upended by the Jaguars, are three-point home favorites against the Minnesota Vikings – the next smallest spread of the week. The Vikings lost 43-34 at home to the Green Bay and made things close only because of a 24-point fourth quarter.

Intriguing QB Matchup Sees Biggest Total of Week 2

The Baltimore Ravens-Houston Texans game has the largest total at 53.5 points. That is to be expected considering two of the NFL’s top quarterbacks will square off in the Ravens’ Lamar Jackson and the Texans’ Deshaun Watson.

The Ravens rolled to a 38-6 victory over the visiting Browns on Sunday. Jackson, the reigning NFL MVP, threw for 275 yards and three touchdowns.

Meanwhile, the Texans lost 34-20 at the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night in the season opener. Houston scored 13 of its points in the fourth quarter after the game had been basically decided.

Other Big Totals in Week 2

Three games are listed with an over/under of 50.5: Atlanta Falcons-Dallas Cowboys, Chiefs-Los Angeles Chargers and Monday night’s Saints-Las Vegas Raiders matchup.

The Falcons’ defense proved vulnerable Sunday as Atlanta dropped a 38-25 decision to the Seattle Seahawks.

The Chiefs are the reason the number is high in their game after rolling up 34 points in the opener. Conversely, the Chargers eked out a 16-13 victory on the road over the Bengals on Sunday.

Like the Saints, the Raiders cracked the 30-point barrier in its opener Sunday as they downed the homestanding Carolina Panthers 34-30.

Low Totals

Jaguars-Titans have the lowest total at 42.5 points despite Minshew Magic ruling the day in Jacksonville on Sunday.

Three games are listed at 43: Denver Broncos-Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills-Miami Dolphins and New York Giants-Chicago Bears.

There could be some volatility in the Broncos-Steelers total as both teams open Monday night.

The Bills beat the New York Jets 27-17 and the Dolphins lost 21-11 to the New England Patriots on Sunday. The Bears slipped past the Detroit Lions 27-23 while the Giants open Monday night at home against the Steelers.

Texans Look Underpriced

The Ravens-Texans matchup is intriguing because of the QB matchup. Baltimore is favored by 6.5 on the road and that seems a little high, which should cause some early money to be bet on Houston.

That comes after Watson and Patrick Mahomes went head-to-head on Thursday night in Kansas City.

Also, the Saints at 5.5 over the Raiders on the road seems a touch high. Look for that come down as bettors hit the Raiders, who will be playing their first home game in Las Vegas after moving from Oakland.
