To no one’s surprise, Edmonton’s Connor McDavid is the betting favorite to capture the 2025 Conn Smythe Trophy for the most valuable player in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

He’ll be looking for back-to-back trophies for the first time since Sidney Crosby did it in 2106 and 2017 — but he’s hoping that he’s on the winning end of the Cup Final.

McDavid is the first player to win the Conn Smythe but not the Cup since Anaheim’s JS Giguere in 2003.

Let’s analyze the Conn Smythe odds below and share our best bets.

Conn Smythe Prediction: McDavid vs The Field

It’s hard to bet against the best player in hockey, leading the league in playoff scoring and returning his team to the Stanley Cup playoffs for a second straight season.

McDavid has six goals and 20 assists through 16 games, and he’s the fourth player in NHL history to have four straight 20-point postseasons.

He’s the surefire bet, win or lose, like he proved last season when the Oil lost in a painful seventh game after coming back from a 3-0 series deficit. This is, of course, on the assumption he continues to do what he’s done.

If there’s an obvious value pick, it’s got to be teammate Leon Draisaitl, who is just a point off McDavid’s scoring lead.

However, he’s got just seven goals, and I think it’s going to take a massive goal-scoring spree for him to pull it off — as it’s a high probability McDavid will be his set up man.

If he were able to rip something like, eight goals over seven games, that might just do it.

Other Top Conn Smythe Predictions

Amidst all this Oilers’ hype, we’re also overlooking the defending Stanley Cup Champions, who have shredded the competition en route to a third straight Cup Final.

They don’t have a superstar like Edmonton’s but a roster of A- to B+ players dots their lineup. While Edmonton has four players inside the Top 5 in scoring, Florida has eight inside the Top 20.

It’s goalie Sergei Bobrovsky that has the second-best odds (+250), but it’s going to take a whale of a performance to earn that award against the potent Edmonton offense.

Leading scorer Aleksander Barkoff is next, with six goals and 17 points, while Matthew Tkachuk, Sam Bennett and Carter Verhaeghe all follow Draisaitl.

Of those, Verhaeghe might be the one to target at +4000 odds. He’s got six goals in the playoffs, but has a penchant for timely ones, as he’s knocked in a pair of game winners already en route to the final.

Conn Smythe Longshots to Consider

I don’t think the winner is going much farther down than perhaps Brad Marchand at +7500, but if there is someone that might be worth a sprinkle, I’d look at Seth Jones.

He’s got a modest three goals and four assists, but this series could be a showcase opportunity for the talented defenseman, who can easily activate into the rush and do some damage.

If Jones can become that hybrid extra attacker on the rush and put up some points, he’s definitely the most talented of the players down in the +50000 range.
