Two teams that can’t be thrilled with how their seasons have started appear to be on the right track to fixing their issues, as the Blues face the Lightning. Tampa Bay has won four of their last five contests (losing their last one to NHL-leading Boston 5-3). St. Louis, meanwhile, also lost their last game 6-2 to Buffalo, but before that had won seven straight.

The Blues are 5-5-0 on the road, while Tampa Bay is 6-3-1 at home, making the Bolts -170 home favorites. Read on for Blues vs Lightning analysis.

The Lightning are the sixth choice in the Stanley Cup odds at +1400. St. Louis faces much longer odds at +5000. Tampa Bay is -170 favorites in this contest that features a total of 6 goals.

Puck drop is set for 8:00 pm ET at Amalie Arena in Tampa, FL with TNT providing the coverage in the United States and Sportsnet airing the broadcast in Canada.

St. Louis Blues Betting Analysis

It has been a truly baffling season for the St. Louis Blues, that has seen them go from a high, to the lowest of lows, then reverse course to the highest of highs. They won their first three contests, then were mired in a eight-game losing skid, all of which came in regulation. They followed that up with a sparkling seven-game winning streak, before a surprising loss to the Sabres.

St. Louis is 24th in goals per game, though they’ve scored at least three in seven of eight. Between the pipes they’re not much better, ranking 22nd in goals against/game. On special teams, they’re a respectable 10th on the power play, but a dreadful 30th on the penalty kill.

Craig Berube’s squad has scored with the man advantage in four straight tilts, but they’re simply not getting the job done on the PK, giving up seven markers in the last six outings.

Tampa Bay Lightning Betting Analysis

Though they weren’t on quite as long of a winning streak as the Blues were, Tampa Bay had come out on top four in a row, before running into the buzzsaw that is the NHL-best Boston Bruins. Following a slow start to the campaign, they’ve taken eight of their last 12 battles.

Tampa Bay is slightly above the rest of the NHL as they’re eleventh in goals per game, and 14th in goals against per contest. They’re ninth on the PP, and 18th on the PK. They’re paced by Nikita Kucherov, who is tied for sixth in league scoring with 28 points. No Blue has more than 17 points (Brayden Schenn, Robert Thomas).

Blues vs Lightning Projected Starting Goalies

Team Goalie Record SV% GAA
St. Louis Blues Jordan Binnington 9-6-0 .905 2.98
Tampa Bay Lightning Andrei Vasilevskiy 7-6-1 .903 3.00

Before giving up six goals in his latest outing, Blues netminder Jordan Binnington coughed up just one or two goals in his previous five starts. His counterpart Andrei Vasilevskiy has uncharacteristically given up three or more in ten of 14 starts on the campaign. However, in half of his previous four outings he’s given up one or two snipes.

Blues vs Lightning Pick

Tampa Bay has won five of seven against the Western Conference, and on the contrary, the Blues have failed in five of seven against the East.

Blues vs Lightning Same-Game Parlay Picks

Pick Odds
Tampa Bay Lightning Moneyline -170
Over 6.5 Goals -105
PARLAY ODDS  +205

With both these teams ranking 14th (Tampa) and 22nd (St. Louis), in goals against per game, they should be lighting the lamp consistently, especially with star power on both teams. The over has hit in four of the last six meetings between these two foes.

Pick: Tampa Bay Lightning Moneyline (-170), Over 6 goals (-125)
