The Predators are winless in five contests since returning from their season-opening trip to Europe, capped by last Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Philadelphia. The Blues travel to Music City after falling 3-1 to the visiting Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday, and have now scored just one total goal during a two-game slide.

Start time is set for 8:00pm ET at Bridgestone Arena, with all the action televised on ESPN+ and Hulu.

Despite their current slide, the Predators have emerged as strong -178 favorites in Thursday’s NHL odds, while the Blues lag as +150 underdogs. The total is pegged at 6.0, with both the OVER and UNDER sporting -110 odds.

Blues vs Predators Recent History

Thursday night’s matchup at Bridgestone Arena marks the first of four scheduled meetings between these Central Division rivals. The Blues have taken three straight from the Preds, including a pair of lopsided wins in Nashville in the late stages of last season.

St. Louis has filled the net during that stretch, averaging 6.67 goals per game. That marks a turnaround for the Blues, who fell to defeat by a single goal in each of their four previous head-to-head dates.

With the Blues filling the net, the OVER enjoys a steady 4-0-0 run and has gone 8-4-0 over their past 12 versus Nashville. Road teams have fared well when these teams meet, scoring four or more goals in six of their past 10 meetings.

St. Louis Blues Betting Outlook

The Blues managed to outshoot an opponent for the first time this season in Wednesday’s date with the Oilers. However, their offensive woes continue. In addition to tallying just one goal during their two-game swoon, the Blues have tallied just four total goals in 12 periods of action since potting three first-period markers in a 4-3 overtime win in Seattle on October 19.

Currently ranked 29th in team scoring, the club also ranks near the bottom of the stats with just 27.6 shots on goal per game. This team featured nine 20-goal scorers last season, but so far only Justin Faulk and Vladimir Tarasenko have scored more than one goal.

Injuries to two of last season’s top goal scorers Brandon Saad and Pavel Buchnevich have not helped the effort. Buchnevich is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury and Saad remains listed as day-to-day after missing the past two games. One upside for St. Louis has been its impressive play in the back half of games played on consecutive nights, scoring 20 total goals while winning three straight.

Nashville Predators Betting Outlook

Goals have come at a premium for the Predators since sweeping San Jose opening the season in Europe. The Preds have mustered just 1.80 goals per game during their current five-game slide, and have been limited to a single goal in two of three losses to date at Bridgestone Arena.

After scoring three times during an impressive debut with the club in Europe, Nino Niederreiter has fallen silent, scoring just once in the past five outings, and failing to register a shot on goal in two of the past three contests. The NHL’s top-producing defenceman last season, Roman Josi has been uncharacteristically quiet in the early going. Josi has tallied just one total point to date and racked up a dismal -8 plus/minus over the past four games.

In addition, starting goaltender Juuse Saros has compiled a middling .872 save percentage while taking the loss in four straight starts. Saros has also been rocked for 14 total goals in three straight losing appearances against the Blues, and stopped just four of 20 shots faced in under 30 minutes of work in an 8-3 loss in St. Louis back on April 17.

Blues vs Predators Prediction

Something has to give in this clash of woefully underachieving clubs. While the Predators have enjoyed a lengthy rest, and face a St. Louis club playing on back-to-back nights, it is tough to back Nashville as lofty favorites against a Blues squad that has had their number. Look for the Blues to eke out the win in a low-scoring affair.
