If the Montreal Canadiens (41-21-10, 19-8-8 away) want to finish in one of the three playoff bound spots in the Atlantic Division, they’ll need to keep up with this scorching-hit play.

They look for a fifth straight win as they visit the Carolina Hurricanes (46-20-6, 26-9-2 home).

It won’t be easy, as the Metropolitan Division-leading Hurricanes are tied for the most points in the East with the Buffalo Sabres and enter this one as a favorite in the NHL odds.

Action gets underway at 5pm ET from the Lenovo Center in Raleigh, NC, with ESPN carrying the national broadcast.

This game features two of the Top 4 scoring teams in the NHL, and a big reason why my Canadiens vs Hurricanes prediction is targeting the total.

Carolina is averaging 3.50 goals per game (4th) and with their 5-2 win over New Jersey on Saturday, the ‘Canes have now topped the total in four of their last five games.

There’s plenty of goal scoring going on in Raleigh too: the Over has cashed in 12 of the Hurricanes’ last 13 home games against opponents with a winning record. The Over has also cashed in six of their last seven games on home ice overall.

Montreal enters this one with four straight wins, and have averaged 4.5 goals per game during his run, a nice bump from their regular season average of 3.51, the third-best mark in hockey.

They’ve also held their own against elite competition, with the Over connecting in seven of their last eight games against Top 10 scoring defenses, The Habs have also built a nice 13-7-0 Over record in their last 20 road games.

The Habs and Hurricanes have topped the total in each of their last three head-to-head matchups. It should be noted that Montreal averaged better than five goals per game in these meetings.

Carolina’s dominance on home ice dictates this odds board, as they have reeled off nine straight wins against teams with a winning record and have a home record of 8-1 overall. That’s a big role in why bet365 has them at -185 on the moneyline, though Caesars has +158 odds for Montreal to pull off the upset.

Both teams will work with the 1.5 points doled out on both sides of the betting landscape. BetMGM has the Habs as 1.5-point favorites at -155 odds, while bet365 has Carolina winning by two or more goals at +145 odds.

The total is also similar, set at 6.5 goals both ways. The Over pays out at -102 at FanDuel and the Under cashes at -115 at bet365.

Caufield has 45 goals on the year, and is closing in on 50 for the season. He’s picked up 10 goals in his last 11 games, and he has had at least one goal in each of his last two games against Carolina.
