  • The New Jersey Devils are -155 road favorites over the St Louis Blues in an NHL game slated for Thursday, February 16
  • St Louis is 13-3 straight up in the last 16 games against New Jersey, but the Devils are 3-1 in the past four meetings
  • The Devils are an NHL-best 20-3-3 on the road this season

The St Louis Blues (25-25-8) and New Jersey Devils (35-13-9) offer a sure sign of how quickly things change in the world of pro sports. As recently as 2019, the Blues were Stanley Cup champions. That 2018-19 NHL campaign was the first of four in a row in which the Devils have missed out on post season play.

This season, though, it’s the Devils who are playoff bound. Meanwhile, the Blues are heading for an out of playoff experience and are looking to break up the band. They’ve already dealt forward Vladimir Tarasenko and several other members of that 2019 Stanley Cup core are on the trading block.

St Louis has won 13 of the last 16 meetings with New Jersey. This time, though, the Devils are -155 road favorites. New Jersey is 5-1 straight up in the last six games as a betting favorite.

Puck drop is set for 9:00pm ET on Thursday, February 16 at the Enterprise Center. ESPN has the broadcast in the USA. Canadians can catch the action if they subscribe to the NHL package.

In the NHL public betting splits, 67% of handle and 55% of bets are with the Devils at -1.5 in the puckline. Moneyline bettors are even more solidly back New Jersey with 82% of handle and 73% of bets.

When it comes to the total of 6.5 goals, the handle (69%) and bets (57%)  are going with the over. The total has gone under in each of New Jersey’s last three games. However, the Blues have gone over in five straight home games.

Despite their strong season, the Devils aren’t getting much love in the Stanley Cup odds. New Jersey is given +1500 odds as the ninth betting choice to capture the NHL title.

Devils Cruising Without Hughes

Minus leading scoring Jack Hughes for the past three games, New Jersey is 2-0-1. Out with a lower-body injury, Hughes had accounted for 9-9-18 totals in his nine games prior to the injury. New Jersey is 18-6-2 when Hughes gets a point this season.

New Jersey has won an NHL-leading 12 games since January 4. Boston and New Jersey are the only NHL teams not to lose in regulation when carrying a lead into the third period.

Blues Getting Healthy

On the weekend, St Louis welcomed back center Ryan O’Reilly and winger Pavel Buchnevich from IR. O’Reilly missed 14 games with a broken foot. Buchnevich was out four games due to a lower-body injury.

O’Reilly and Buchnevich have points in both games since returning to action. O’Reilly scored a game-winning goal in his comeback game. Buchnevich has four assists in the last two games.
