  • The Colorado Avalanche look to rebound from consecutive losses as they host the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 5 of their second round series as home favorites
  • Home teams have claimed victory in each of the first four games of the series, capped by Vegas’ dominating 5-1 victory in Game 4 on  Sunday
  • We’ve got you covered with all the odds as this clash of West Division titans continues on Tuesday night at Ball Arena

The Colorado Avalanche will be aiming to reclaim the lead in their second round playoff series with the Vegas Golden Knights when they hit the ice for Game 5 on Tuesday as -148 favorites. The Avalanche ride an epic 13-game win streak on home ice, including victories in each of their first four home games of these playoffs. However, Colorado has plenty of work to do to rebound from back-to-back losses in Vegas that leave this series knotted at two games apiece. The Golden Knights turned in dominating performances while recording consecutive wins for the first time since Game 4 of the opening round, but look to Game 5 as +128 underdogs to take their first lead of the series.

Here’s a look at all the odds and trends as this West Division matchup continues, with the puck drop set for at 9:00 PM EST on Tuesday night at Ball Arena.

Odds as of June 7

Golden Knights Gaining Momentum

The Vegas Golden Knights have steadily gained momentum since opening this series with a crushing 7-1 loss. The Golden Knights fell just short of victory in Game 2, dropping a 3-2 overtime decision despite outshooting Colorado by a wide 41-25 margin, but took control as the scene shifted to T-Mobile Arena for Games 3 and 4.

With their backs against the wall, the Golden Knights outclassed Colorado on home ice, outshooting the Avalanche by a wide 78-38 overall margin while marching to a pair of wins, capped by Sunday night’s decisive 5-1 victory. Overall, Vegas has limited Avalanche shooters to just two goals per game in the three outings since dropping Game 1 while rediscovering the offensive touch that so often eluded the club early in the postseason.

Marchessault Leading Attack

Jonathan Marchessault has quickly emerged as the Golden Knights’ offensive spark plug. The diminutive 30-year-old forward accounted for half of the club’s eight goals over the past two games and has now recorded at least one point in each of the first four games of the series after being held pointless over the final five games of Vegas’ first round series win over Minnesota.

Overall, Marchessault has now recorded six goals and eight total points in five career postseason meetings with the Avalanche and offers intriguing value as a +205 bet to bury the biscuit once again on Tuesday night.

Avalanche Unbeatable on Home Ice?

Despite their recent surge, the Golden Knights still face a massive challenge to claim their first series lead with a win on Tuesday night as they battle an Avalanche squad perched as -148 home chalk. Colorado has been simply spectacular while compiling their current home win streak, limiting opponents to just 1.62 goals per game and claiming victory by multi-goal margins on nine occasions.

Maintaining that pace when facing the Golden Knights has been easier said than done. Vegas posted wins in two of its four visits to Ball Arena this season and has demonstrated its ability to keep Avs shooters in check while limiting Colorado to three or fewer goals in four of their six overall clashes in the Mile High City this season.

Golden Knights vs Avalanche Game 5 Best Bet

Based on their steady performance at Ball Arena, the Avalanche return home still leading the way as dramatically diminished -139 favorites in the NHL playoff series prices. But if this club is to fulfill the promise as Stanley Cup favorites, they will need greater production from their biggest stars on Tuesday night.

After piling up 13 points through his first six game appearances of the postseason, Nathan MacKinnon was limited to just seven total shots and no points in Games 3 and 4. Mikko Rantanen mustered just a single assist while recording five total shots over the past two games, while Gabriel Landeskog failed to get a shot on goal over the past two games.

The Avalanche has suffered three straight losses just once this season, with each of those defeats coming on the road. The club has also never lost a playoff series which they opened with consecutive wins. However, that is all set to change on Tuesday if Colorado is unable to find a way to shut down a Vegas offense playing with confidence. Vegas offers great value on the moneyline in the Golden Knights vs Avalanche Game 5 odds.

The Picks: Golden Knights ML +128; UNDER 5.5 (-110)
