Knights Heavily Favored in Wednesday NHL Odds

The Vegas Golden Knights are heavily favored to beat the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena in the Wednesday NHL odds. Pete DeBoer’s club currently occupies the second Wild Card spot in the Western Conference and are battling for playoff position.

Vegas was one of the preseason favorites in the 2022 Stanley Cup odds, but their season hasn’t gone as planned. The Knights have been decimated by injuries, with captain Mark Stone, sniper Max Pacioretty and forward Reilly Smith among the players on LTIR.

Vegas has showed signs of promise over the last week, winning consecutive games over Nashville and Chicago. The team got a boost with the return of veteran defenseman Alec Martinez against the Blackhawks on Saturday.

Vegas has also been impacted by injuries in the goaltending department. Robin Lehner is sidelined with a lower-body injury, making 25-year-old Logan Thompson (.914 SV%, 2.89 GAA) Wednesday’s projected starting NHL goalie.

Kraken Home Underdogs vs Vegas

Oddsmakers don’t like the Kraken’s chances of defeating the Golden Knights in the Wednesday NHL odds. Seattle’s +140 moneyline price means they have only 41.7% implied probability to win. Dave Hakstol’s club has won three of their past four games entering Wednesday.

The Kraken sit at the bottom of the Western Conference standings, but they’re finishing the year strong. Seattle has scored four-plus goals in three of their past four contests. Trade deadline acquisition Daniel Sprong has scored in all three of his games since the move from Washington.

Although Seattle is playing well, there are a few factors that make their +140 underdog price warranted. Firstly, the Kraken are only 11-18-3 on home ice this season. Secondly, Seattle hasn’t performed well against superior competition. The Kraken are just 14-33 as betting underdogs.

Seattle is one of the worst defensive teams in the NHL, which is a problem against a Vegas offense that features superstar Jack Eichel. The Kraken’s projected starting goalie for Wednesday is Philipp Grubauer, who owns a .889 save percentage and 3.19 GAA.

Golden Knights vs Kraken Pick & Prediction

This will be the third meeting of the season between the NHL’s two newest teams. Vegas won the previous two matchups despite the Kraken outshooting VGK in each contest. Seattle’s goaltending issues were on full display in a 4-2 loss back in November.

It’s hard to justify a wager on Seattle with the inconsistent goaltending from Grubauer. Furthermore, when you dive deeper into analytics, you’ll find that the Kraken have scored well above their expected goal total this past month. They’re not generating many high-danger chances.

Despite all the injuries, the Golden Knights have scored nine goals in their last two games. Forwards Evgenii Dadonov and Jack Eichel have each scored in consecutive consecutive, while d-man Alex Pietrangelo has three points in that span.

This is a game where betting a team total offers value. You can wager on the Golden Knights scoring over 3.5 goals at a great +100 price at Barstool Sportsbook. Vegas is a hungry team right now and should exploit Seattle’s shaky goaltending for the third time this season.

Pick: Vegas Team Total Over 3.5 (+100)
