Isles Finally Favored in Tuesday NHL Odds

The Islanders have won two of their past three games entering Tuesday’s NHL matchup with Detroit. Barry Trotz’s team has beaten Ottawa and New Jersey in the past week after a brutal 10-game winless streak. The Isles win over New Jersey on Saturday was their first victory at the new UBS Arena.

New York has a way to go considering they sit at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division, but there have been positive signs. Superstar Mathew Barzal is riding a six-game point streak, while Oliver Wahlstrom has six points over his last three games. Goalie Ilya Sorokin owns a .925 save percentage.

Is now the time to start betting the Islanders in the NHL odds? The defense is always solid for Trotz’s team, but the Isles are one of the lowest-scoring teams in the NHL. The good news is depth forwards Zach Parise and Jean-Gabriel Pageau have found the back of the net recently and tend to score in bunches.

Red Wings Betting Value as Home Underdogs

Detroit enters Tuesday’s NHL game with the Islanders having lost three straight games. Jeff Blashill’s team had won five straight matchups prior to suffering losses to Nashville, St. Louis, and Colorado. These recent losses haven’t been close either, as Detroit has been outscored 18-7 by opponents. Red Wings are listed as home underdogs in the Tuesday NHL odds.

While Detroit dropped their most recent game at Little Caesars Arena to Nashville, they’ve still been one of the NHL’s best home teams this season. The Red Wings are an impressive 9-3-2 in their own building. Goalie Thomas Greiss is 4-1-0 at home with a superb .943 save percentage.

The Red Wings are led on offense by rookie sensation Lucas Raymond, who has recorded 10 goals and 24 points in 28 games. Raymond is the current favorite in the Calder Trophy odds at +250, but rookie blueliner Moritz Sedier isn’t far behind. Dylan Larkin is tied with Raymond for Detroit’s goalscoring lead.

Islanders vs Red Wings Pick & Prediction

Detroit would’ve likely been favored over the Islanders in the Tuesday NHL odds if it weren’t for their recent losing skid. They’ve already hosted the Isles once this season and won 4-3 in overtime on December 4th. Prior to that game, however, New York had won seven of the last eight meetings.

When you look at the first meeting this season, the Isles struck twice with their power play. That should be a factor again considering Detroit’s penalty kill is operating at a miserable 16.1% efficiency. Barzal and Wahlstrom are two elite scorers who should stay hot against this miserable Detroit PK.

The Isles have had an ugly season, but their 6-6-3 road record isn’t bad. This is a team trending in the right direction, while the Red Wings are going through a rough patch. Back the team playing the better hockey right now and bet New York moneyline at -122 in the Islanders vs Red Wings odds at Barstool Sportsbook on Tuesday.
