Bruins Home Favorites in Tuesday NHL Odds

The surging Bruins are favored to beat the Leafs at home in the Tuesday NHL odds. Boston is 14-2-1 in their past 17 games following a 6-3 win over the Islanders on Saturday. The B’s are 20-10-2 overall at TD Garden this season.

Aside from the recent surge, there’s other factors in play with Boston’s moneyline price. The Bruins have had Toronto’s number over the past few seasons, eliminating the Leafs in both the 2018 and 2019 NHL Playoffs.

Goaltending is a major reason why the Bruins are likely to receive plenty of public money for Tuesday’s big game. Boston’s Jeremy Swayman is 10-1-0 in his past 11 starts, allowing only 22 goals in that span. Swayman is Tuesday’s projected starting NHL goalie.

While Swayman is providing stability in goal, the Bruins are getting offensive production from a wide variety of sources. Top-line forward Brad Marchand has five goals in his past five games, while second-liners Erik Haula and Charlie Coyle each have six assists in that span.

Do Leafs Hold Underdog Value vs Bruins?

The Maple Leafs are listed as rare underdogs in the Tuesday NHL Odds. Tuesday’s NHL matchup at TD Garden will mark just the fourth time in 66 games in which Toronto isn’t listed as betting favorites. Sheldon Keefe’s team is 1-2 as betting underdogs.

Toronto’s +110 moneyline price gives them 47.6% implied probability to beat the Bruins. The Leafs are 6-3-1 in their past 10 games following an impressive 6-3 win over the Panthers on Sunday. Florida currently has the best record in the entire Eastern Conference.

Toronto’s underdog price might seems like a gift considering the Leafs own an identical record to the Bruins and also have better odds to win the 2022 Stanley Cup. The Leafs have dropped three straight road games, however, and are only 17-12-3 away from home.

The Leafs have a lethal offense led by the NHL’s leading goalscorer Auston Matthews. Toronto is averaging 3.65 goals per game, which is third-best in the league. That’s one of the reasons oddsmakers have set a high total for Tuesday’s game.

The Leafs’ major issue is goaltending, as projected starter Petr Mrazek has struggled with consistency. While Mrazek has won back-to-back games, the Czech native is only 12-6-0 with a .890 save percentage in 2021-22.

Leafs vs Bruins Pick & Prediction

When making a pick for Leafs vs Bruins, it’s impossible to ignore the head-to-head history in this Original Six rivalry. Although Toronto’s struggles in Boston are well-documented, the Leafs did beat Boston at home in the first meeting this season.

When two NHL teams have identical records, you need to dive deeper into advanced stats and underlying numbers. Both these teams have been top-five in the NHL over the past month in controlling puck possession and generating high-danger chances.

The clear mismatch in this game is goaltending, as Swayman is on an absolute heater while Mrazek has been inconsistent. Boston outshot Toronto in the first meeting but Leafs’ goalie Jack Campbell (currently injured) played much better than Boston’s Linus Ullmark.

Swayman’s recent play combined with Boston’s depth scoring makes them a worthwhile play in the Tuesday NHL odds. They’ve been the better team of late and should feed off the crowd at TD Garden to take another meeting with the Leafs.

Pick: Bruins ML (-134)
