The simple analysis of the series thus far is that the Flames’ top players are scoring and the Jets’ go-to guys are not. No. 1 Calgary center Sean Monahan has four points in three games and Johnny Gaudreau, Elias Lindholm and Mikael Backlund have two goals each.
Meanwhile, the Jets leading scorer Kyle Connor, who netted 38 goals in the regular season, has no goals on eight shots in the first three games of the series. He had five or more shots in 16 different games this season and had nine shots in a game against Anaheim.
The Real Connor Hellebuyck is Missing
Winnipeg goalie Connor Hellebuyck is the favorite to win the Vezina Trophy because his stellar performance this season helped the Jets adversity on multiple occasions.
But the dominant, stingy Hellebuyck has only been in this series part-time. The rest of the time we’ve seen a Hellebuyck who makes gaffes handling the puck behind his net. We’ve seen the Hellebuyck who hasn’t been able to make the key save when the Jets needed it.
In the regular season, Hellebuyck had six shutouts and a .922 save percentage. In the first three games of this postseason, Hellebuyck has a 3.37 goals-against average and a .894 save percentage. He has carried this team many times this season. The Jets needs him to do it again in Game 4

Flames Coach Geoff Ward has Much at Stake
On November 19, 2019, Ward was named the Calgary interim coach. If he wants to hold that job permanently, he has to win this series against the Jets.
It’s no guarantee that winning this series will earn him the job. But it will be a good start. Certainly, if he lost this series, it doesn’t seem possible that he would be hired long-term. You can count on Ward having his team ready to play the Jets in Game 4.

Jets Not Saying Whether Mark Scheifele and Patrik Laine Will Play
The Jets still aren’t saying much about the injury status of center Mark Scheifele and winger Patrick Laine who haven’t played since Game 1.
Without their No. 2 (Scheifele) and No. 3 regular-season leading scorers, the Jets don’t measure up very well to the Flames. The Jets outscored the Flames by nine goals in the regular season, but when you remove Scheifele’s and Laine’s combined 57 goals, the Jets’ offense looks average at best.

Best Bet
Even if Scheifele and Laine returned to the lineup, it would be difficult to believe they would be playing at 100% efficiency. With the Flames’ special teams performing at the highest level, their goalie Talbot looking sharp and their top players finding the net, their confidence is soaring.
The Flames are averaging 31.7 shots per game against Winnipeg and giving up 26.3 shots per game. Only the New York Islanders are giving up fewer shots in these playoffs. The Flames are carrying the play against the Jets.
