We’ve got a star-studded tilt on the ice tonight, as the Oilers (31-25-8, 15-14-4 away) visit the Avalanche (43-10-9, 23-4-4 home). Edmonton is in the midst of a treacherous road trip, where they’ll face three of the top-four teams in the West over a five-day stretch.
The Oilers kicked off the trip with a victory over the Golden Knights, but online sportsbooks expect them to fall short tonight in the NHL odds. They’ve pegged Colorado as -170 moneyline favorites, and I’ll be backing the Avs to continue their impressive play and get the victory in regulation.
Puck drop is set for 7 pm PT, 10 pm ET from Ball Arena, in Denver, CO, with TNT, HBO Max and truTV sharing broadcast duties.
Keep reading for my Oilers vs Avalanche prediction, along with the spread, odds and lineups for Tuesday Night Hockey on March 10th.

These two teams faced off earlier this season, with Colorado skating to an embarrassing 9-1 victory. I’m not expecting a repeat performance tonight, but I don’t think this Avs team is one you want to get in front of.
For starters, Colorado was already the top contender in the Stanley Cup odds, and then they went out and won the trade deadline. The Avs re-acquired Nazem Kadri to bolster their secondary scoring and center depth, and also added Nicholas Roy to shore up their play down the middle against opposing teams’ top players.
Colorado enters play tonight with a ridiculous +83 goal differential, the best mark by a wide margin. As good as their offense is, their defense and goaltending is no slouch, as they rank third in expected goals against per 60 minutes.
Nathan MacKinnon is the Hart Trophy odds favorite, leading the NHL in goals, while ranking just behind Connor McDavid in points. Martin Necas is tied for seventh in scoring, while Cale Makar leads all defensemen with 19 goals, and is the Norris Trophy odds favorite.
If there’s one team that could theoretically keep pace with Colorado on the scoresheet, it’s Edmonton, who rank second in goals per game and own the league’s best power play. McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and defenseman Evan Bouchard are a true three-headed monster, ranking first, third and fifth in scoring since December 3rd.
The problem for Edmonton, and the true separator between them and the Avs, is their play in their own zone. While Colorado grades out extremely well defensively, the Oilers have surrendered the fifth most goals and rank 30th in save percentage.
Edmonton did turn in a much more inspired defensive effort on Sunday versus Vegas, but this Avalanche team is a different beast, especially at home. Colorado has won 23 of 31 home games this season, while averaging 4 goals per contest.
Oilers vs Avalanche Spread and Odds
If you bet Colorado to win in regulation, you can shrink their -170 moneyline to -115 at DraftKings.
Total-wise, the over/under sits at 6.5 at a heavily juiced -155. That may seem high, but overs have been especially consistent in Edmonton games. 12 of the Oilers last 13 contests have cleared 6.5 goals, and this one could easily as well given the firepower on both sides.
Oilers vs Avalanche Lineups
On the injury front, the two most notable absences tonight in the Oilers vs Avalanche lineups are Colorado’s Gabriel Landeskog (lower body) and Artturi Lehkonen (upper body).
Connor Ingram vs Mackenzie Blackwood Stats
In net, Connor Ingram will make his second straight, which tells you everything you need to know about how the Tristan Jarry experiment is going for Edmonton.
The Avs will counter with Mackenzie Blackwood, who ranks fourth this season in GAA, fifth in shutouts, and 13th in save percentage.
