Oddsmakers favor the Edmonton Oilers to even their Round 2 NHL Playoff series with the Vancouver Canucks tonight. The puck will drop for Game 3 on Friday at 10:00 pm ET, with TNT and Sportsnet carrying the broadcast.

The Canucks completed a miraculous comeback in Game 1 to take a 1-0 series lead but are priced as home underdogs in Friday’s Game 2. Edmonton’s Leon Draisaitl is questionable to play due to an undisclosed injury, potentially impacting the betting line.

Let’s get into our Oilers vs Canucks prediction, as we analyze the odds and provide player props to bet.

Oilers vs Canucks Prediction

We’ve made our Oilers vs Canucks prediction for Game 2, forecasting Edmonton to even the series at Rogers Arena tonight.

My Best Bets

The Vancouver Canucks did a great job neutralizing Connor McDavid in Game 1, holding him to one assist and not a single shot on goal. The Canucks had a 54.43 CF% at even strength, while the Oilers had a lackluster 45.57 CF% at five-on-five.

The Oilers’ explosive offense was still on full display in the series opener, as the Oil jumped out to a 4-1 lead before eventually falling 5-4. Edmonton managed just four shots on goal in the third period, so coach Knoblauch will inevitably be stressing the importance of a full sixty minutes.

We have to expect a better showing from Stu Skinner, who gave up five goals on 21 shots in Game 1 to drop his save percentage down to .893%. While Canucks rookie netminder Artur Silovs got the victory, he also had a night to forget, allowing four goals on 18 shots.

We have to expect a much more complete effort from the Oilers in Game 2, as they don’t want to head back to Edmonton down 2-0. Furthermore, the Oilers’ lethal power play only had one opportunity on Wednesday, which they converted. The Oil will likely draw more calls on Friday.

Leon Draisaitl’s injury status (more on that below) could impact our prediction, but we think the Oilers even the series. McDavid never stays quiet for long and Skinner should also bounce back. In the previous instance in which Skinner gave up five goals in this postseason, he responded with a .964 save percentage in the following game.

  • Oilers ML (-130)

Oilers vs Canucks Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
EDM Oilers -1.5 (+195) -130 Over 6.0 (-120)
VAN Canucks +1.5 (-240) +110 Under 6.0 (+100)

The Oilers vs Canucks odds for Game 2 show Edmonton as the -130 road favorites, which is 56.5% implied win probability. Vancouver comes back as +110 underdogs, which is a 47.6% implied probability. A $10 bet on the Canucks moneyline would return $11 in profit, while a $10 bet on the Oilers ML would net you a $7.69 return.

The over/under for the game is offered at 6 goals, with the odds juiced to -130 (54.5% implied probability). There were nine goals scored in Game 1, but could the teams tighten up defensively in Game 2? A unique NHL team trend is that the “under” is 8-1-2 in the Canucks’ last 11 Friday games.

It may be puzzling to see Vancouver as the underdog once again, especially considering they have won all five meetings with the Oilers this season (reg. season + playoffs). Keep in mind, however, Edmonton was pegged as heavy favorites in the Oilers vs Canucks series odds.

The Oilers were a decent road team this season (23-19-2) and are averaging nearly double the amount of goals per game than Vancouver in the postseason (4.3 vs 2.6). Even though the Canucks were the superior 5-on-5 team in Game 1, the Oilers still got four past Silovs.

EDM-VAN Player Props

We cashed our +210 player prop from the last game with Ryan Nugent-Hopkins registering a power-play point in the opening minutes. If you wanted to slam that bet again, the line has shortened to +190 at Bet365.

The table below displays some of the Game 2 Oilers vs Canucks player props. Zach Hyman once again has the best odds to score (-105) after netting his eighth goal of the playoffs in Game 1.

Player Anytime Goalscorer Shots on Goal (O/U) Points (O/U)
Zach Hyman -105 3.5 (+100o/-130u) 0.5 (-200o/+154u)
Leon Draisaitl +105 2.5 (-166o/+130u) 1.5 (+124o/-160u)
Connor McDavid +110 3.5 (+114o/-145u) 1.5 (-140o/+110u)
Brock Boeser +165 2.5 (-105o/-125u) 0.5 (-160o/+124u)
J.T. Miller +170 2.5 (-115o/-115u) 1.5 (+185o/-245u)
Elias Pettersson +235 2.5 (+145o/-190u) 0.5 (-140o/+110u)
Evander Kane +250 2.5 (-125o/-105u) 0.5 (+114o/-145u)
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins +275 1.5 (-166o/+130u) 0.5 (-145o/+114u)
Elias Lindholm +300 1.5 (-175o/+135u) 0.5 (+110o/-140u)
Conor Garland +310 2.5 (+150o/-195u) 0.5 (+124o/-160u)

Odds as of May 10 at DraftKings Sportsbook.

We’re targeting McDavid in Game 2, however, as all the discourse about the Canucks shutting him down likely isn’t going to last for long in this series. McDavid’s shots on goal prop is sitting at 3.5, with +114 odds on the over.

In Round 1 against the Kings, McDavid was held to one shot on goal on two occasions. In each of the following games, he fired at least four shots on goal. The Oilers lead the playoffs in shots on goal (33.8), and we expect many more pucks thrown on net in Game 2, with McDavid leading the way.

Game 2 Prop Bet:

  • Connor McDavid Over 3.5 Shots on Goal (+114)

Injury Report

The major injury that could impact this NHL betting line is one to Leon Draisaitl. The Oilers’ superstar is officially listed as a game-time decision for Game 2 due to an undisclosed injury. He left Wednesday’s 5-4 loss in the second period but returned for the third.

Draisaitl was absent from Thursday’s practice but practiced with the team Friday. According to several Oilers beat writers, they are more optimistic than not that Draisaitl will be in the lineup for Game 2.

Meanwhile, Adam Henrique missed Game 1 entirely with a lower-body injury and his status is also uncertain for Game 2. Mattias Janmark took his spot on the top line in Game 1 with non-encouraging results.

On the Canucks side, starting goalie Thatcher Demko remains out indefinitely with a knee injury. Silovs has been named the Game 2 starter for Vancouver.
