  • The Edmonton Oilers are slight -115 series favorite in their Round 2 Stanley Cup Playoff series vs the Las Vegas Golden Knights
  • This will be just the second time these teams have met in the playoffs
  • Read below for Oilers vs Golden Knights series odds, preview, schedule and prediction

The Edmonton Oilers got right just in time to turn their Round 1 series around and dispose of the Los Angeles Kings. Their next task should be another level-up, as they take on the Las Vegas Golden Knights.

These teams split their regular season down middle, with two wins apiece.

The books have Edmonton and Vegas as two of the Top 5 teams remaining in the 2025 Stanley Cup odds, with Edmonton tied with Dallas in second with +550 odds at DraftKings, looking up at only Florida (at +440). Vegas, meanwhile, is in a tie for fifth with Toronto, with their best odds at +750 from Bet365.

It’s certainly going to be a compelling matchup in Round 2 of the NHL Playoff Bracket. Let’s check out the series odds, schedule, and I’ll share my Oilers vs Golden Knights prediction.

Oilers Offense Carries Them to Round 2

There’s no smoke and mirrors here: the Oilers either outscore their problems, or they lose. That’s the fate of a team that relies on superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, and a goaltending duo of Stuard Skinner and Calvin Pickard.

The good news is McDavid and Draisaitl are carry the burden well: both are in the Top 4 in playoff scoring, with Evan Bouchard the only other Oiler inside the Top 30 of postseason scoring.

Edmonton made the move from Skinner to Pickard after falling behind LA 2-0 in the series, but he provided what would probably be considered a mini-spark. Yes, he did pick up four wins, but he had an .893 save percentage and a 2.93 GAA.

Some teams would have survived a series with their goalie putting up those numbers, but it should be expected if Edmonton delivered a massive 4.50 goals per game, which currently ranks first.

Golden Knights Grit Through Round 1

Vegas, who won the Pacific Division, needed a rally of its own, down 2-1 in Round 1 to the Minnesota Wild, before rallying with three straight 1-goal wins to clinch it.

They did it as a group, as they don’t currently have one player ranked inside the Top 30 in scoring. Tomas Hertl and Jack Eichel lead the way with five points each, tied for 33rd.

Their success against Edmonton all revolves around the players facing Edmonton’s dynamic duo. Vegas boasts elite two-way forwards in Mark Stone and Eichel, and an exceptional set of defencemen, headlined by Noah Hanifin, Alex Pietrangelo and Shea Theodore.

It’s expected that one of those three D-men will be on the ice at all times to stabilize the back end, to combat any chances to free McDavid and Draisaitl from Grade A defense.

Like Edmonton, though, goaltending is a question mark. Adin Hill got pulled once against the Wild, and his .880 save percentage is worse than Pickard’s “upgrade” for the Oilers.

Oilers vs Golden Knights Series Prediction

A spot in the Western Conference’s final four has been occupied by either the Oilers or Golden Knights since 2020, and with their Round 2 matchup, it guarantees another year.

The Golden Knights dumped the Oilers in six games in 2023, en route to the franchise’s first and only title. It’s taken a few years, but they finally meet again.

Vegas has struggled to score in the playoffs, with just 3.00 goals per game, which ranks at the bottom of teams still standing in the postseason.

But there is an opportunity here to bridge that gap, if they can exploit Edmonton’s porous penalty kill, which ranks dead last, at a paltry 60% kill rate.

Oilers vs Golden Knights Head-to-Head Stats

Playoff Power Play %38.5 (2nd)27.8 (7th)
Playoff Penalty Kill %60.0 (16th)76.9 (6th)

Conversely, Vegas better be careful taking their own trips to the sin bin, as Edmonton connected on 38.5% of its man-advantage opportunities, the second-best mark in the playoffs.

Edmonton could make this a lot easier on themselves if there is a support network around the scoring hubs of Draisaitl and McDavid.

If guys like Evander Kane, Mattias Janmark, Trent Frederic, Connor Brown and Adam Henrique put up points like they did in Games 5 and 6 against LA, that might be too much offense to deal with.

With both teams questionable in net, I’ll ride the Oilers to outscore their deficiencies for yet another round.

EDM-LVK Prediction:
