Predators Can Clinch Playoff Spot

Nashville can lock down the final playoff spot in the Central Division with one more regulation win and a Dallas loss. This means the Preds could be playoff bound if they defeat Columbus on Wednesday and the Stars lose to the powerhouse Tampa Bay Lightning.

Nashville has been on an impressive run of late, winning four of their past five games and scoring at least four goals in five of their last seven. They’re also getting otherworldly goaltending from Juuse Saros, who now owns a .928 save percentage in 33 starts this year.

The big news for Nashville is that star forward Filip Forsberg scored in Monday’s game after returning to the lineup on the weekend following a 17-game absence due to an upper-body injury. Forsberg is a two-time 30-goal scorer and provides a big boost to the team’s first line and top power-play unit.

Slumping Jackets Aim To Play Spoiler

Columbus won’t be playing in the 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs, but they can still ruin the fun for the Predators. John Tortorella’s team gave the Preds a scare Monday, rallying from a three-goal deficit to force overtime in an eventual 4-3 loss.

Emil Bemstrom scored a natural hat trick in the third period and Elvis Merzlikins turned in a strong performance with 34 saves. Despite the impressive comeback effort, Columbus is still a dismissal 1-8-3 in their past 12 games. The Blue Jackets have been held to a single goal in six of their past nine.

To make matter worse for Columbus’ betting value, sniper Patrik Laine got demoted to the fourth line to start Monday’s game. The Finnish superstar is clearly in Tortorella’s doghouse and has gone eight straight games without scoring a goal.

Predators vs Blue Jackets Best Bet

The Predators have everything to play for at this point of the season, while the Blue Jackets are just looking to make it to the finish line and shift their focus to next season. We saw the contrast in motivation levels Monday when the Preds jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Expect them to turn in a much more complete effort in the rematch.

Nashville has taken six of the last seven meetings and are the better team in almost every area. Columbus has made it close and covered the puckline in the last two meetings, but the Preds won’t be messing around Wednesday given what’s on the line.

Nashville has their leading forward scorer back healthy and own the better goalie in this game with red-hot Saros. Bet on the Preds getting the job done and cementing their playoff hopes with a commanding win over the Jackets on Wednesday.

Pick: Predators ML (-175), Predators -1.5 (+150)
