Playoff Odds Trends & Analysis
- Florida’s return: The Panthers are -430 to make the playoffs after finishing with 84 points and missing the field last season. Barkov’s six-to-eight-week recovery estimate and Marchand’s expected six-week absence are setbacks to their return to contention.
- Conference Disparity: Last season’s lowest playoff point total was 98 in the East versus 90 in the West. The 2026-27 schedule expands from 82 to 84 games, giving teams two extra games to collect points.
- Coin Flips: Buffalo is -115 to make and -111 to miss, while Toronto sits at -106 to make and -120 to miss. Los Angeles has the same -106/-120 split.
- Plus-Money Playoff Bets: The Rangers (+142) and Boston (+154) offer the shortest plus-money make prices in the East, followed by Pittsburgh (+168) and Columbus (+200). Philadelphia sits at +520. San Jose (+114), Winnipeg (+158) and St. Louis (+176) lead that group in the West. A larger payout comes with a lower implied chance of reaching the postseason.
Toronto adds Kirill Marchenko in its September 28 trade with Columbus. Minnesota remains without Brock Faber, who is out indefinitely. The Rangers lose Igor Shesterkin for the season with a lower-body injury, leaving Dylan Garand with the starting opportunity. Ottawa loses William Eklund for 10 to 12 weeks after ankle surgery, while Chicago gets Connor Bedard back from shoulder surgery.
