Rangers vs Devils Recent History

Thursday night’s matchup marks the fourth and final regular season meeting between these Metropolitan Division rivals.

The Devils earned the win in two of this season’s previous three date with New York, including a 4-3 victory in their most recent clash on home ice on January 7. Overall, the Devils are 3-2 SU in their past five head-to-head clashes, ending an eight-game slide versus New York.

The team’s have exchanged 4-3 wins over their past two dates after seeing 18 of their previous 2-0 matchups get settled by multi-goal margins. With these clubs producing seven or more total goals in seven of their past nine tilts, the OVER has gone a steady 7-2 over that stretch.

New York Rangers Betting Outlook

The Rangers looked destined to finish third in the Metro after opening the month of March amid a worrisome 8-game stretch that featured six losses. But the club has emerged as a legitimate threat to finish atop the division standings during a 9-1-1 surge that leaves them trailing first-place Carolina by just five points entering Thursday’s action.

New York has tended to business at both ends of the ice during their surge, which includes a 4-1-1 record on the road. The Rangers have outscored opponents by a wide 37-14 margin over the team’s past eight contests, and allowed just two goals per game over their past four road dates.

Artemi Panarin has continued to produce at a steady clip, with his one-goal, one-assist performance in Tuesday’s win over the Jackets marking his fourth multi-point performance over the past six games. Patrick Kane also appears to be settling in on Broadway, scoring in each of the past two games, snapping a two-game pointless drought.

New Jersey Devils Betting Outlook

The Devils have picked a bad time to get bogged down in their worst slump since December. Desperate to regain their dominant early-season form, the Devils fell flat in Monday’s loss to the Islanders.

The club was outshot by a wide 27-17 margin while spotting New York a 2-1 lead through 40 minutes, and while they managed to put pressure on the Islanders with a 14-point barrage in the third period, they gave up three more goals in the 5-1 defeat.

But while the club has allowed five goals in two straight road losses, they have been steadier at home, earning at least a point in three straight outings, capped by last weekend’s 5-3 win over Ottawa. Jack Hughes proved to be the hero of that contest, scoring once and adding a helper, and has recorded five points in three games after being held pointless in three straight.

Rangers vs Devils Prediction

Devils goaltender Vitek Vanecek has been steady despite losing three straight, allowing two or fewer goals in three of his past four outings. However, with New Jersey shooters struggling to generate consistent offense, and with the Rangers arriving in town firing on all cylinders, New York’s positive odds offer intriguing value ahead of this potential preview of what could prove to be an exciting opening-round playoff series matchup.

The Pick: Rangers (+115); OVER 6.5 (+105)
