Sabres Underdogs in Monday NHL Odds

Online sportsbooks don’t like the chances of the Sabres pulling out a victory at Madison Square Garden on Monday. Buffalo is priced at +195 on the moneyline in the NHL odds, meaning they only have 33.9% implied win probability.

Buffalo is 6-1-1 in its past eight games but hasn’t been able to gain much ground in the Eastern Conference wild-card race as the Florida Panthers, New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins also racking up victories.

The Sabres last took the ice on Saturday when they handed the Carolina Hurricanes a 4-3 defeat. Defenseman Rasmus Dahlin, a contender in the Norris odds, had one of the best game of his career, recording one goal, two assists and four blocks.

Casey Mittelstadt, who has been filling in as first-line center while Tage Thompson plays through an upper-body injury, also scored a pair of goals against Carolina. Mittelstadt has multi-point efforts in four of his past five games playing on that top line.

Rangers Also Have Something to Play For

While the Sabres are fighting to keep their playoff hopes alive, the Rangers also have stakes in Monday’s game. New York are two points behind the New Jersey Devils for second place in the Metro division and can tie them in the race for home-ice advantage with a victory.

New York has been one of the most consistent teams in the NHL over the past month or so, which is why the team’s Stanley Cup odds continue to improve. The Rangers are 12-2-3 in their past 17 games, with the only two regulation losses coming against the Devils and Carolina Hurricanes.

New York’s last game was a 4-0 victory over the lowly Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday. Forward Mika Zibanejad notched a pair of assists in that game, giving him 50 on the season. Zibanejad is now tied with Artemi Panarin for the team scoring lead with 89 points.

The Rangers are expected to turn in net to Igor Sheskertin, who was first off the ice at the Rangers’ morning skate. This indicates the talented Russian will faceoff against Buffalo Sabres’ youngster Devon Levi, who was in the starter’s crease at the Sabres’ morning skate.

Rangers vs Sabres Prediction

When it comes to the Rangers vs Sabres prediction, it’s hard to ignore New York’s results over the past month. But dive a bit deeper into their past 10 games and you’ll notice they’ve actually been outchanced and outshot at 5-on-5.

New York relies on its lethal power play and great goaltending, which, fortunately, is a recipe for success against this Sabres team. Buffalo has the league’s 28th-ranked penalty kill and their goalie Devon Levi is yet to play in a truly high-stakes NHL game.
