  • Canada is a massive -20000 moneyline favorite against France to close out Group A hockey action
  • The Canadians are in pole position to clinch the tournament’s top seed
  • Read below for my France vs Canada prediction, plus the latest odds and starting goalies

With Group A already clinched, Canada’s men’s hockey team will seek the top seed in the tournament when they take on France Sunday morning.

The French have yet to win at 2026 Milano Cortina, and are massive underdogs to the powerhouse Canadians.

My France vs Canada pick will focus on the total, as goal differential plays a huge part in how this tournament will shake out (more on that below).

Puck drop is set for 10:40am ET from Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena, with Peacock carrying the broadcast.

How much of a lock is Canada to take this game? The books have them as -20000 favorites to win outright, meaning you’d need to put up $20,000, to earn a profit of $100. France’s upset odds aren’t great either, at just +3500, but they do have +1300 odds to stay within two goals.

The total is set at 7.5 goals, with the Over getting decent +100 odds. Canada is currently the tournament favorite to win Gold at +100, and Bet99 is boosting the bet by 99% if you sign up here.

There’s no way around it: for Canada to ensure it locks down the top seed, it’s going to need to beat the tar out of France.

Because this tournament’s main tiebreaker is goal differential, the Canadians are battling the Americans for the top overall seed. Canada currently has a +9 goal differential through two games, while the US are at +7.

Both have one game left, and routing the French will ensure that top seed, especially as the Americans will face a little more resistance as they close out group play against the Germans.

This seed became even more vital as Group B was thrown for a loop, with Slovakia, Finland and Sweden finishing with identical records, but goal differential results mean the Swedes finish third, and will need to go to the playoff round to get into the quarterfinals.

Why is that important? Because Sweden can only enter the tournament as high as a seventh-seed, setting up a way-too-competitive QF match against the 2-seed.

Canada shouldn’t be worried, though: play the way they’ve been playing, and the goals will come. The Canadians are a juggernaut on offense, led by Connor McDavid, who has posted back-to-back three-point games to pace the attack.

We’ve already seen Jon Cooper send out his nuclear option, swapping Tom Wilson with Nathan MacKinnon on the top line with McDavid and Macklin Celebrini, and it’s as scary in real time as you would have imagined.

MacKinnon and 19-year-old Celebrini each have two goals, and six Canadian players have at least six points.

The French were feisty against Czechia, with a quick 3-0 goal run in the second period to take a lead, before order was restored and France dropped a 6-3 decision.

They have been under siege all tournament, getting outshot 38-12 by Czechia. Throw in their 4-0 shutout loss to Switzerland, and they’ve been peppered 81-38 in two games.

Canada has hit the 5-goal mark in both wins. The number gets up there to ensure their path to gold goes as smooth as possible.

France vs Canada Starting Goalies

While it’s not official, France is likely going with Antoine Keller, who performed reasonably well in the loss to Switzerland, stopping 39 of 43 shots. Martin Neckar was shelled for six goals against Czechia before getting the yank, with Julian Junca finishing things off, stopping all 12 shots.

Canada is likely going with Jordan Binnington Sunday, and barring some unforeseen circumstances, the standout at the 4 Nations Face-Off will be the go-to guy the rest of the way.

He opened the tournament with a 5-0 win over Czechia, stopping all 26 shots he faced.
