- Joey Logano earned his second victory of the season last week, claiming the win at Michigan
- Logano is now on the board at +700 to win the NASCAR Cup Championship
- Logano is also the points leader right now
Joey Logano was accused of cheating this past weekend by Martin Truex Jr., but NASCAR disagreed. At any rate, Logano ended up winning the FireKeepers Casino 400, earning his second victory of the season. His NASCAR Cup Championship odds are now at +700, but is he a good bet to win for a second consecutive season, or is he too risky of a bet?

Logano is Hot Right Now
Logano has had a couple of really strong stretches this season where you consider him as a good bet to win it all, and then he’ll have the odd hiccup here and there. He placed fourth at the Dayton 500 but then followed that up with a 23rd in Atlanta. He had three straight top 10’s after that and then back-to-back finishes of 17th and 19th.
Right now, Logano is on a heater. He won last week at Michigan but that was his fourth straight top 7 finish and eighth in his last nine outings. He’s now the leader in terms of points in the NASCAR standings, and a case can be made that he’s been the best driver all year.
Back-to-Back Championship Winners Are Rare
The challenge with betting on Logano is that you have to keep in mind that winning the NASCAR championship in back-to-back years is tough. No driver has done that since Jimmie Johnson had his historic run of five straight titles in a row from 2006-2010.
Logano Has Been Overshadowed
One of the reasons Logano isn’t higher up the list in terms of odds (even though he’s at the top of the points standings) is because he has been overshadowed by drivers with more wins. This past weekend was his second win of the season, but Kyle Busch has four wins, Martin Truex Jr. has three, and Denny Hamlin has two.

There’s also the issue of what happened this past weekend with Logano possibly (but not really) getting a jump on a restart in overtime. Logano had the fastest car all day, leading 163 laps, and he deserved the win.
Logano had the fastest car all day, leading 163 laps, and he deserved the win.
If there is one concern to be noted about Logano, it is that he hasn’t always had the fastest car. This was his first time leading laps in three weeks and prior to this race, he hadn’t led laps in three of the last four races. But this is more nitpicking than anything else. He’s been mostly flawless this season.
Logano is a Good Bet
I’ve liked Logano for some time as, in my eyes, he’s been the best driver next to Kyle Busch all season long. At the same time, you’re getting a much better payout on Logano, so there is value on the board there.
This is only the second time in Logano’s career that he’s won two races prior to Father’s Day, which is a very encouraging sign. He’s my bet to win the championship this year.
Pick: Joey Logano (+700)
