Lampard has been fired by Chelsea halfway through his second season in charge of the London club on Monday, Jan. 25, 2021 after being unable to replicate his success as the club’s record scorer in his first Premier League managerial job. Chelsea has lost five of its last eight Premier League games and dropped to ninth place, despite Lampard benefiting from nearly $300 million on new players for this season. The FA Cup Final is a game heralded by English soccer culture; this year is it up for grabs between Arsenal and Chelsea, both of London. Arsenal and Chelsea have won the first and third most FA Cups in English history with 13 and eight, respectively. With two first-year head coaches going head to head in Frank Lampard and Mikel Arteta, it will be interesting to see who can outsmart who to lift their club’s first piece of silverware under their direction.

Obviously, Chelsea have had the better campaign out of these two sides. The Blues sort of surprised everyone this year with youngsters Mason Mount, Fikayo Tomori and Tammy Abraham coming into the fold. Meanwhile, Arsenal have been a shambles, falling apart at the seams despite a fruitful, young lineup. Nevertheless, this lineup has proved how deadly they can be at times, as the Gunners beat Manchester City 2-0 in the semifinal to get in this position.

Can Pulisic Lead Chelsea to Silverware?

Chelsea have had many new faces in the team this year. The two most surprising ones? Christian Pulisic and Olivier Giroud. The two have combined 17 goals and four assists in a limited amount of games this season. Nobody expected Pulisic to arrive in his first season from Borussia Dortmund and do quite that. The young American has lived up to his hype and will make players like Holding and Luiz sweat come Saturday afternoon.

Giroud’s finishing touch and prowess in the air will also make him a massive threat against his former club. However, not all is perfect for the Blues. Despite winning four out of their last six, they managed to concede eight goals to Liverpool and Sheffield combined which proves their defense can be very leaky. Playing a full stregnth side of Aubameyang, Pepe and Lacazette will make this interesting. Chelsea have also had the harder cup run, beating Nottingham Forest, Hull, Liverpool, Leicester and Manchester United along the way.

Will Arsenal Make Amends to a Horrendous Year?

The real question for this match is, will Arsenal actually make this a match? The answer is, they should. A cup final in your backyard is a fairly big reason to turn up and despite their bottling tendencies, this side can put together a game when need be. In addition to defeating Manchester City in the FA Cup, Arteta’s side also took down Liverpool in one of the final matches in their domestic run.

Arteta played a full-strength side in the semifinal against Man City and will probably play a similar team. Expect five in the back, with Xhaka and Ceballos in the midfield. The front three of Auba, Pepe and Lacazette looks deadly but it is yet to be determined if they can mix properly and score the goals they need to on a consistent basis. The one thing Arsenal has going for them is the drive for European play. Europa League is betting than nothing at all and this should translate to the players on the bench.

Best Bet

Finally, the best bet for this match is the Chelsea spread at -1 (+340). Chelsea have just looked phenomenal as of late and it is quite easy to see them winning their ninth FA Cup by a handful. Arsenal just do not have the firepower to win this one and history goes to prove it. Chelsea have taken down Arsenal three out of their last five matches and Arsenal did not play a Premier League side in the cup until the quarterfinals. Expect Frank Lampard to lift his first piece of club silverware on Saturday at Wembley as Chelsea throttle the Gunners.

My Pick: Chelsea spread -1 (+210)
