  • Winless Montenegro and Bulgaria look set for a draw in Group A
  • Moldova could repeat earlier Group H  victory against Andorra
  • Third-placed Iceland seek a Group H boost against second-placed France

Qualifying for the European Championships is reaching an important stage but ironically, there may be interest in assessing teams who already have little to play for at this point in the competition.

Montenegro meet Bulgaria in Group A on Friday, October 11, at Podgorica City Stadium, at 2:45 p.m EST.

After the 1-1 draw between the sides in Sofia last March, one sportsbook is offering of +230 for another draw on Friday is inviting.

Neither nation has any hopes of reaching the tournament next summer having failed to win a single match in qualifying. Each has only two points after two draws.

Montenegro are in fourth place behind England, the Czech Republic and Kosovo. Bulgaria are bottom-placed in fifth.

Their other drawn fixture was a 1-1 home result against Kosovo in June.

Bulgaria gained a point by drawing 1-1 in Kosovo last March.

Both nations are heading into this week’s meeting off the back of emphatic qualifying defeats.

Bulgaria were beaten 4-0 by England in London in their last date in the group in September.

Bulgaria were beaten 4-0 by England in London in their last date in the group in September. They also lost 3-1 in a friendly against the Republic of Ireland in Dublin three days afterwards.

Montenegro were defeated 0-3 at home by the Czechs. They won a home friendly 2-1 against Hungary in September.

Neither result suggests there will be much optimism surrounding Friday’s meeting in the Montenegrin capital.

Nor is there the prospect of many goals – with Montenegro having scored just three times in the group and Bulgaria just five, with five games each played.

Pick: Draw +230

Euro 2020 Group H Andorra v Moldova Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total Odds
Andorra +½ (-129) +320 Ov 1½, 2 (+100)
Moldova -½ (+109) +109 Un 1½, 2 (-120)

Another good opportunity among the qualifying strugglers is sportsbooks’ offer of +109 for Moldova to win in Andorra in Group H on Friday, October 11, at Estadi Nacional, Andorra la Vella, at 2:45 pm EST.

Andorra – a tiny principality sandwiched between Spain and France – have lost all six of their qualifying fixtures without scoring a goal.

Moldova have won once – a 1-0 home victory against the Andorrans in June.

A total of 14 goals have been conceded by Andorra. Moldova have allowed in 17 goals, while scoring twice.

There was a certain amount of resilience shown by Andorra when they were defeated by just 1-0 away from home against current group leaders Turkey in June.

But they were subsequently beaten 3-0 by France in September in Paris.

The trip to Andorra offers the Moldovans something more of a level playing field than they were faced with against the bigger nations.

Moldova’s most recent qualifying results have been poor. They lost 3-0 in Iceland in September and 4-0 at home to Turkey three days later.

However, the trip to Andorra offers the Moldovans something more of a level playing field than they were faced with against the bigger nations.

In the search for value, the price of +109 for a Moldovan win offers a decent opportunity.

Iceland are in third place in Group H behind Turkey and France.

The fixture against France offers them the chance to strike a significant blow towards boosting their hopes of qualifying on Friday, October 11, at Laugardsvollur Stadium, Rekjavik, at 2.45 pm EST.

Although France are World Cup holders and favorites to win the tournament final in England next summer, the hunt for value makes one sportsbook’s price of +310 or a draw on Friday an intriguing one.

Pick: Moldova win +109

Euro 2020 Group H Iceland v France Odds

Team Spread Money Line Total Odds
Iceland +1, +1½ (-123) +600 Ov 2½ (-109)
France -1, -1½ (+103) -227 Un 2½ (-111)
Draw N/A +310 N/A

*Odds taken at 2019/10/09

The French defeated Iceland 4-0 at home in March. They have been scoring freely in the group, with 19 goals to their credit.

But, ironically, Iceland’s hopes may be lifted by the fact that they suffered a surprise 4-2 defeat in Albania in their most recent group fixture in September.

It has made the necessity of getting a result against France more important and Iceland’s determination will be increased.

With three easy points on offer in next Tuesday’s home game against Andorra (October 14), Iceland’s match against France offers a chance to begin the international double-header in encouraging fashion. And to strike a blow against the side directly above them in the group table.

The Icelandic side have won four fixtures in the group. But both their defeats have come on the road.

France are probably too good to lose in Rekjavik. But a draw is highly feasible in these circumstances.

The Icelandic side have won four fixtures in the group. But both their defeats have come on the road.

They proved their strength at home with a 2-1 defeat of current group leaders Turkey in June. That represents the only goal they have conceded in three games on their home turf.

Pick: Draw +310
