- This Sunday, soccer returns to Merseyside as Everton host Liverpool at Goodison Park at 2 PM EST
- Liverpool are just two wins away from clinching their first Premier League title in 30 years, while Everton are in 12th place
- Currently, Liverpool are the heavy favorites with a moneyline of -172; see odds and prediction below
In the 30th round of Premier League play, Everton hosts league leaders, Liverpool, in the 236th edition of the Merseyside Derby. Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool already have one hand on the title, as two wins is all they need to clinch the trophy that has evaded them for 30 years.
Meanwhile, Everton are in a much different situation. While the Toffees have played better under manager Carclo Ancelloti, their last nine games will be saving their pride and vying for a top half finish.
This matchup has not been favorable for Everton this season, as they have lost two games to the Reds by scores of 5-2, and 1-0, respectively. Both of these games featured rotated sides from Jurgen Klopp. Goals were scored by sporadic squad players like Divock Origi, Xherdan Shaqiri, and even youngster Curtis Jones. How will Everton fare against a full strength Liverpool team?

Richarlison Fuels the Merseyside Fire
If this match needed anymore fire and flare, Richarlison definitely fueled the fire. The Brazilian attacker called Liverpool and Virgil can Dijk out, which can be seen in the Tweet below. With all this competitive tension, a prop bet on yellow cards might not be a bad option.

Nonetheless, this match is absolutely filled with world class talent that will surely be on the display Sunday.
Everton will be depending on Richarlison and lead-goalscorer Dominic Calvert-Lewin to provide the goals, as they have combined for 23 this season. Lining up across from van Dijk and Alisson will be no joke. However, it must not be forgot that Liverpool’s form before the break was quite dreadful without skipper Jordan Henderson.
It is also fair to say that Everton’s defense will be challenged a bit more facing Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Bobby Firmino and Liverpool’s attacking full-backs. Their attacking trio has tallied 38 goals and 20 assists this season, and to call them world class might be an understatement.

Fair to Expect Anything From Everton?
The last time Everton won a Merseyside Derby was 2010. That’s right, a decade ago. There has been many draws in between, but this rivalry has been extremely one-sided.
The last five meetings between these two sides have included three wins for Liverpool and two draws. Those matches have also averaged 1.8 total goals, with four finishing with one goal or less.

Best Bet
Despite Liverpool’s outrageous offense, there is something about a local derby that just shifts the dynamic. It makes the goals few and far between, and it sometimes makes the unlikeliest of players, heroes.
With that being said, the best bet for this match is under 2 1/2, 3 total goals with a moneyline of -106.
History speaks for itself here with how many of these games finish with such a low scoreline, even when it is not expected. Everton deserves some credit with how they have played under Ancelloti, and it might not be as one-sided as pundits are expecting. This is also the first game back in action for both of these sides, so expect some rust to be showing at Goodison Park on Sunday.
