The second round of group play at the CONCACAF Gold Cup is in full effect this weekend as Grenada takes on Qatar at the BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston Saturday night at 7:30pm ET.
The two Group D sides are currently at the bottom of the table after one match. However, with two matches remaining, there are plenty of points still on the board to qualify for the knockout stages.

Since both of these sides failed to win their first match, this second matchday becomes slightly more important.
Furthermore, since this tournament does not award any third place finishers, Grenada needs a result as they lost their first match to Honduras.

It will be a very tough match for Grenada, who are currently trying to qualify for the Gold Cup’s knockout rounds for the first time in their country’s history.
Their opponents on Saturday, Qatar, were a special invite to the tournament and are the 58th highest team in FIFA’s World Rankings.

Against Panama it was fair to say that Qatar’s defense looked like they were at sixes and sevens. Nonetheless, their offense was enthralling and was ultimately sparked by their captain, Hassan Al-Haydos of Al Sadd.
Akram Afif and Almoez Ali also contributed to the goal tally and will be players Grenada will have to plan on managing.
Grenada Must Be More Clinical
One thing that stood out in Grenada’s first match against Honduras was their lack of execution on offense. The Spice Boys actually managed to get off 10 shots.

However, only three were on target and none of them were difficult enough to challenge Luis Lopez in goal. On Saturday, they will be up against 23 year-old Meshaal Barsham between the sticks, a player who is quite inexperienced at this level.
Michael Findlay’s side should be peppering him with shots at every opportunity, just to test him.

Additionally, it is obvious that Grenada is a massive underdog not just in this game, but the tournament in general. When you are in this situation, you have to take the chances that come to you.
If not, that becomes the difference between a Cinderella story and just another team eliminated. Expect Jamal Charles to lead the line again up front and bear the weight of this responsibility to score goals.
Qatar’s Match to Lose
When you see the moneyline for this match, it becomes fully apparent that this is Qatar’s match to lose. The 2019 Asian Cup Champions are honestly of a different class, and will be playing in a World Cup in a little over a year.
In the nicest way possible, they are just of a different class in terms of quality. With that being said, they still need to show up in their Crimson on Saturday and back up what all of the pundits are already expecting.

To go back to their last match, there is still plenty for the Crimson to improve on as well. They are a better team then Panama, but were just sloppy in a few different parts of the pitch.
The frustrating part for Qatar fans was that they held a one goal lead on three separate occasions, and conceded shortly after every single one.

In fact, the last goal to tie the game 3-3 was from the penalty spot, which stems from ultimately a lack of focus and discipline. If Qatar can avoid these same mistakes they will be fine, but it does provide some opportunity for the Spice Boys of Grenada.

Overall, the best bet for this match is Grenada to cover the spread of +2.5 with odds of +110. These odds have really good value, and now that their feet have settled, I have a hard time seeing Grenada getting beat that badly again.
