Juventus vs PSG Preview

This will be the first season since 2013-14 that Juve has failed to progress to the knockout phase of the UEFA Champions League. Not only is the Old Lady struggling in Europe, but domestically too they have been having a tough time. They currently sit in seventh place in Serie A – ten points adrift of leaders, Napoli.

Remarkably, manager Massimiliano Allegri still has the support of the Juventus board, if not the fans, but that may all quickly change if they fail to at least secure third place and a route to the Europa League.

Juve in Sight of Unwanted Record

In fairness, in Serie A things have improved for Juve who,  after a terrible start to the campaign, have won their last three without conceding a goal. Of more concern though, and of more relevance to Wednesday’s game, is a horrible 1-0-4 UCL record, with the solitary win coming against Maccabi Haifa – their rivals for third place – on Matchday 4.

Defeat here would mean Juve becoming only the second Italian team ever to lose five out of six UCL group games – Roma did the same in 2004-05. They will therefore be desperate, in front of their own fans, to use their decent home form to avoid that scenario.

All Systems Go for PSG

Things may be less than settled off the pitch for some of PSG’s big names – particularly Messi, Mbappe, and Neymar – but on the pitch, it is very much business as usual, with a five-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 and a chance of topping their UCL group.

It was their superstar triumvirate who led the way last week when a 7-2 hammering of Maccabi Haifa paved the way for this opportunity to take top spot and a preferential seeding in the draw for the last 16. Messi and Mbappe both scored a brace and Neymar one, in their demolition of the Israeli champions.

PSG Unbeaten in 28

Their three superstars were also on the scoresheet for PSG at the weekend when they had to come from behind at home to beat Troyes. The Parisiens eventually won an end-to-end encounter 4-3 and are now unbeaten in 28 games. In order to top Group H they must at least match Benfica’s result against Maccabi.

PSG beat Juve 2-1 in the reverse fixture but in all of the meetings between these two Euro giants, the French champions have never won in Turin.

Juventus vs PSG Prediction

Juve’s improved home form in Serie A gives them some hope and with Allegri under massive pressure, the need to win that Europa League place is massive.

But, even without Neymar, PSG’s firepower is the envy of every club side in the world, and so fragile has Juve’s confidence been, an early goal for PSG and it will be a long way back. It may not, however, be the easy win many are expecting.

Picks: PSG to win (-159) / Under 2.5 goals (+128)
