The 15th edition of El Trafico will take place on Wednesday night between the LA Galaxy and LAFC at Dignity Health Sports Park, but this is their first meeting in the US Open Cup. The kick-off is scheduled for 10:30 PM ET.

The Galaxy is coming off a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Houston over the weekend and has lost two of their last three games, putting them in fifth spot in the West in league play. LAFC meanwhile, is flying high at the top of the conference and most recently beat Columbus. However, they’ve also suffered a pair of losses in their previous three fixtures.

Odds as of May 24th at Barstool Sportsbook.

The Galaxy is slightly favored at +135 odds, while LAFC isn’t far behind at +150. Both moneylines offer tremendous value. Los Galacticos ran out as 2-1 winners in the most recent encounter against their LA rivals, but the two meetings before that ended level. No matter which side you favor, you’ll be able to get a good price.

The over at -182 odds is one to keep an eye on because three of the last four clashes were high-scoring affairs that easily hit over 2.5 goals.

LA Galaxy vs LAFC Prediction

The Galaxy has hit a poor spell of form, especially at home. They’ve suffered defeat in back-to-back games at Dignity Health Sports Park. Houston ran riot on Greg Vanney’s side on Sunday, shutting them out. The Dynamo were two goals to the good by the 58th minute with the Galaxy showing zero finishing abilities despite enjoying 73% of the ball and a boatload of opportunities.

LA had 16 shots and six on target but couldn’t beat Steve Clark, who was solid in between the sticks for the visitors. On a more positive note though, they’ve yet to lose to LAFC in a home game. After getting booed off the pitch by the supporters, the Galaxy should come out here with a lot more fire. This will be the first real test of the competition as well, taking out NISA side California United Strikers FC in the last round. There, they fell behind early 1-0. But LA eventually took a 3-1 lead, before California pulled one back late to make it interesting in what resulted in a 3-2 LA win.

LAFC got back to their winning ways against a struggling Columbus outfit on Saturday. Carlos Vela bagged his sixth goal of the campaign before Jose Cifuentes sealed the deal when he capitalized off a massive Crew mistake and calmly slotted in the back of the net. All this came after an incredibly long weather delay.

Steve Cherundolo’s group had a slightly tougher task in the US Open Cup Round of 32, having beaten Portland 2-0. In the only other elimination game between LAFC and the Galaxy, the Black & Gold knocked out their foes in 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs. They will be hoping for a similar outcome here but in order to do so, LAFC must limit the mistakes and Vela has to produce against a strong Galaxy backline, that’s only allowed 14 goals in 13 MLS games.

It’s the Galaxy offense that will need to improve here. While defensively they’ve been stout, they’ve only managed to score 13 goals on the year. That’s only better than last-placed Chicago who has 11. And equal to the likes of SKC and Vancouver, who sit at the bottom of the West. Of those 13, Chicharito has five. He started on the bench on the weekend but will surely feature in some way on Wednesday against their biggest rivals LAFC. After Chicharito, the goals dry up. Douglas Costa has two, and five others have scored just once.

LA Galaxy vs LAFC Pick

LAFC is just simply playing better right now. It should be a high-tempo, thrilling match but I do believe the visitors will finally end their rut at Dignity Health Sports Park and book their ticket to the quarterfinals of the US Open Cup. The moneyline is a fantastic option.

Pick: LAFC +150
