Valencia vs FC Barcelona Prediction

Barcelona’s shock defeat on Thursday night against Granada dealt a massive blow to their title hopes. A win and the Catalans would have topped the table, but their 2-1 defeat left them in third and two points behind leaders Atleti, who now have the initiative. What Barca can no longer afford to do is drop cheap points, starting with this tricky-looking trip to 14th-placed Valencia.

For their part, Valencia has endured a disappointing campaign but are six points clear of the relegation zone and will know that two more wins should be enough to retain their La Liga status. Last time out they rescued a point in a 1-1 draw at home to Alavés thanks to an 89th-minute equalizer, but it was a game they had earmarked as a win in their quest for survival.

When Valencia and Barca met back in December it ended 2-2, and with the Catalans reeling from their midweek defeat and the home side desperate for points, this could again be closer than the odds are suggesting. Barca took the lead against Granada in midweek but was unable to push on, and so Valencia will take heart from this. As unlikely as it seems, there is value here in the draw.

Pick: Valencia and Barcelona to draw (+430)

Valladolid vs Real Betis Prediction

Valladolid’s La Liga future hangs by a thread as they currently lie in 17th place but level on points with 18th-placed Elche entering La Liga Matchday 34. Relegation is a genuine threat for them, and with Betis in with a chance of a European place  – they are currently sixth – this promises to be a tough game for the White and Violets. They also have some poor home form to contend with and have failed to win in their last three at the Estadio José Zorrilla.

Manuel Pellegrini’s Betis side performed well away from home last weekend and held Real Madrid to a goalless draw, They do however need to get some wins on the board having drawn their last five, especially if they are serious about claiming that final Europa League place.

The good news for Betis is that French striker Nabil Fekir is back from suspension, and this could tilt the balance in their favor.  With the visitors still in plus money, the value here is with the away win.

Pick: Real Betis to win (+125)

Sevilla vs Athletic Club Bilbao Prediction

Sevilla’s outstanding season has already been rewarded with a guaranteed Champions League place next season, and a five-game winning run has taken them into the heart of the title race. With five games to go, they are fourth and just three points behind Atleti.

Bilbao is mid-table, adrift of the fight for European places and clear of the relegation battle, but are still fighting hard to finish the season strongly as evidenced by their outstanding 2-1 over leaders Atletico Madrid two weekends ago.

So, while Sevilla is on a  roll and has the La Liga title in their sights, the obvious bet here is the home win, but that ignores a Bilbao side that proved itself capable of big results last weekend. Therefore, I am going with a draw and an end to Sevilla’s winning run.

Picks: Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao to draw (+280)
