This past week, Real Madrid finally got to celebrate a title won in the post-Cristiano Ronaldo era. Their victory against Villareal in the second-to-last game of the season was enough to clinch the trophy, and call themselves the champions of Spain once more. However, their opponents in the last week of the La Liga season have been fighting an ever so difficult relegation battle.
Leganes vs Real Madrid Odds
Teams | Spread | Moneyline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Leganes | pk +½ (-118) | +196 | Over 2 ½ (-109) |
Real Madrid | pk -½ (-102) | +142 | Under 2 ½ (-111) |
Draw | N/A | +215 | N/A |
Odds taken on 7/18/2020.
Even after winning three out of their last four matches, with a draw as well, Leganes still find themselves one point below Celta Vigo who are in 17th place. It will be a tough task to beat Real Madrid, but this side could do it given their current form and motivation to stay in La Liga next season.
Real Madrid Unstoppable Since Restart
Not to state the obvious, but Real Madrid have been utterly fantastic since Spanish football resumed play. Pundits say the mark of a champion is how they finish close games. This team has proved that time and time again, winning several games 1-0 or 2-1. It has been really fun to watch them play, however, how many of their superstars will actually see the field on Monday?

Many of the players will probably still have a case of championship hangover, and with the Champions League looming next month, why would Zidane risk his players to injury? This would be a great opportunity for the gaffer to play some younger, rotational talent that does not usually see the pitch. That being said, they are still Galacticos and that bench is filled with world class talent.
Leganes vs Real Madrid Statistics
18th (35 Points) | Standing in La Liga | 1st (86 Points) |
0.8 | Goals per game | 1.8 |
11.3 | Shots per game | 15 |
45.2% | Average Possession % | 57% |
Can Leganes Avoid Relegation?
The intriguing facet of this matchup is if Leganes can avoid relegation or not. Real Madrid will not just hand them a game, and they will have to show up and perform. Their recent wins against Espanyol, Valencia and Athletic Bilbao are promising because they are a few really good sides.

They will have the comfort of playing at home, but when it comes down to it, will they have enough fire power to beat the kings of Spain? Oscar Rodriguez probably has the goalscoring talent up front, but he will not be able to do it alone against one of the best defenses in world football.
Best Bet
Finally, the best bet for this game is to take the Real Madrid moneyline and run. A Galacticos moneyline of +142 is outrageously good. Even if Zidane rotates the squad, Real Madrid have won everything since the restart. It is easy to see them winning this one too and ending their domestic season on a high note before they look towards European glory. Leganes have played well and this could easily be a close game. But, it is hard to see them actually pulling off a result and finishing their Cinderella story, especially considering the reverse fixture was 5-0 in favor of Real Madrid.
Sorry Leganes, better luck next time.
The pick: Real Madrid moneyline (+142)
