A shot at hardware will be in both Leicester City and Southampton’s minds when they lock horns in the FA Cup on Sunday, April 18th, kick-off 1:30pm ET. Wembley Stadium will be the host for this fixture and Chelsea vs Manchester City in the other semifinal.

The Foxes of Leicester have lost all three matches played at the New Wembley. They will be looking to turn around a poor spell of form, losing their last two matches.

The Saints meanwhile, will have fond memories of the last two clashes with Leicester in the FA Cup, beating them 1-0 and 2-0 in 2006 and 2008, respectively.

The Foxes defeated Southampton back in their lone meeting in January and after Sunday’s game, the two sides meet in Premier League action at the beginning of May.

Important Clash For Leicester

Brendan Rodgers’ side has a real shot at getting to the final here and competing for a trophy, but a turn in form should be the main focus right now. Leicester still occupies third spot in the Premier League, but a 2-1-2 record in the previous five matches has them just a couple of points ahead of West Ham, Chelsea, and Liverpool.

As for the FA Cup, their quarterfinal victory over Manchester United was certainly impressive. Kelechi Iheanacho bagged a double in the 3-1 result as he continues to be the Foxes’ main source of goals right now amid Jamie Vardy’s struggles in the final third.

The Nigerian also scored twice in a 3-2 defeat to West Ham last weekend after Leicester conceded three goals in the first 50 minutes of the clash. This Southampton meeting is not only important for a shot at glory against either Chelsea or City, but it will be a stepping stone for numerous crucial league fixtures ahead as the Foxes look to secure a spot in next term’s Champions League.

As for their journey to this point in England’s most prized cup competition, Leicester has beaten Stoke City, Brentford, and Brighton along the way before the United win.

Iheanacho leads the side with three goals in the FA Cup, while Youri Tielemans has two goals and two assists. Vardy has yet to feature, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him make his first appearance in the semifinal where the stakes are much higher.

Southampton Are Struggling

The Saints had such a promising start to the season but over the last few months, they’ve completely dropped off. Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men have gone 2-0-3 in their last five games in league play, including a 3-0 defeat to relegation-threatened West Brom on Monday.

Southampton was ripped to shreds by a team that’s fighting to stay in the top flight. They simply looked lifeless. In the FA Cup though, the South Coast outfit has done quite well.

The Saints cruised past Bournemouth in the quarters with a 3-0 victory behind Nathan Redmond’s brace, then also defeated Wolves and Arsenal earlier in the competition. Needless to say, the squad has shown quality at earlier stages and if there was a time for Hasenhuttl’s side to turn things around, this would be it.

Talisman Danny Ings has netted just once in his last six fixtures and has played twice in the cup this term. His productivity up top is vital to the success of the team and he’ll need to bring his best in order to get past a strong Leicester club on Sunday.

Best Bet

Although both sides aren’t playing great football as of late, I have to take Leicester. They have looked a whole lot better than Southampton and despite their atrocious record at Wembley, the Foxes are frankly just a better team.

The over in goals have been hit by Leicester and the Saints relatively often over the last month, therefore, it’s a valuable bet as well.

Pick: Leicester City (-113), Over 2.5 Goals (-112)
