  • Currently, Liverpool sit at the top of the Premier League table with 34 points, an entire eight points clear of the second-place team, Leicester City
  • In all competitions, Liverpool have only lost one game so far during the new campaign, which came against Napoli away in the Champions League group stage
  • The Merseysiders odds to finish the season undefeated currently sit at +700

After winning the UEFA Champion’s League last summer, Jurgen Klopp and his men have had their eyes set on the piece of silverware that has evaded Liverpool for 30 years—the Premier League trophy. Last season, the Reds finished with an astonishing 97 points, one shy of Manchester City, who went on to win their second consecutive title.

It left a sour taste in most of the player’s mouths, and left them hungry to win even more competitions. However, not many expected them to still be undefeated in England’s top-flight competition halfway through November. Now the question is really being posed; can they go undefeated?

Schedule Not on Liverpool’s Side

Arsene Wenger’s 2003-04 Arsenal side is the last to do so, having won the league with 90 points off 26 wins and 12 draws. It would be an incredible feat if Liverpool were able to do so, but they still have some very difficult fixtures on their plate if they want to make history. After punishing Manchester City at Anfield 3-1, the Citizens will be looking for revenge at the Etihad when the Scousers come into town.

They also still have both matches against Everton, and five more matches against the ‘big six’ sides, not including themselves of course. If the past few years have proved anything, it is that these games can go either way, no matter where the fixture is being played. To add onto the issue, Liverpool are going to have a winter schedule like none other in football history.

The Reds are going to have to play in the Club World Cup; taking place in Qatar, while also juggling the League Cup and Premier League. Fans are going to see many new faces come into the side and probably impact some important games. Whether that impact is positive or negative has yet to been found out.

Bet Against Liverpool Having an Undefeated Season

While Liverpool are flying both domestically and in European competition, it would be naive to say that not losing a game in the Premier League from here on out is feasible. With the amount of fixtures still to play, even bearing any injuries, it should be expected for Liverpool to lose a game this season.

Even though this team could put up a historic point tally, and possibly win the league, not losing a game is extremely difficult, which is why it has only been done a couple of times. Even after the first 12 games, it is easy to see that they have been let off of the hook a couple times against tough opponents, where it easily could have been shifted the other way.
