- After suffering their first home defeat in the Premier League in 1,370 days to Burnley, Liverpool’s odds to win the Premier League title have dropped to +700
- Liverpool currently sit fourth in the Premier League table with the possibility of dropping further, while Man United, Man City and Leicester City all sit above them
- Currently, Man City are heavy favorites to win the league with odds of -225
A few weeks ago, many fans and pundits thought the Premier League was wide open for a handful of teams to go on and win. Some also thought that despite their sluggishness and hefty injury list, that Liverpool were still the clear favorites for England’s top domestic competition. However, nobody saw a five-game winless streak in the Premier League coming for the defending champions.
Unfortunately for Liverpool, it’s not just a tough run of games, but instead, poor form. Four of those five games were against teams currently in the bottom half of the Premier League table. They did manage to collect a point against Manchester United, but that was eclipsed by their loss to Burnley, at Anfield. What has been a fortress for nearly four years in England, has now seen defeat. Furthermore, it was a game that pushed Liverpool further down the list of Premier League odds, as they sit six points away from the top spot.

Do Not Expect Liverpool to Repeat as Champions
First things first, Liverpool has been a cracking side for a few years. Jurgen Klopp has put them back where they deserve to be and nothing is to say they are completely out of the Premier League title race. However, halfway through the Premier League season last year, they had 21 more points than they do currently, which is a seven-game downfall. This side has been decimated by injuries, and their silky offense has turned stagnant to put it lightly.
FT: #LFC 0 Burnley 1: A hammer blow to Liverpool's title hopes. Their 68-game unbeaten home league record stretching back to April 2017 is over. Barnes' late penalty gives the Clarets the points. Huge problems for Klopp. His team look devoid of belief. Four games without a goal.

Without fans at Anfield, Liverpool have seemed to lose some swagger. The feeling of a comeback that seemed omnipresent last year, has vanished, and so has the sharpness on the pitch. Liverpool will come out of their Premier League haze, but you simply cannot expect them to challenge for the title this year after such a poor run of form in a crucial time of the season.
Next Up to Win the Premier League
The question everyone wants to be answered, is if Liverpool does not win the Premier League, who will? There are a few options, and those include Leicester City and the two Manchester clubs. Leicester have improved so much from last season, but we all know how inconsistent they can be down the stretch, and how their gaffer is known for a major collapse. Although, Manchester United is trying to put a very serious case down for why they should be favored. With that being said, unless they spend more money in this transfer window, there is no chance they compete with Manchester City at the end of the season.
Manchester City have conceded an average of just 0.57(xG) across their last fourteen matches.

United are simply inferior to City on a managerial and squad level. Guardiola is a manager that has seen it all and has players in his team that have been here before and won multiple Premier League titles. The Citizens have altered their play and while their offense is not flying off the pitch like it used to, their defense is far more organized. They have held five clean sheets in a row, and their man in the middle of the park, Kevin de Bruyne, has the ability to make their attack tick on a minute’s notice.
Best Bet
Overall, it is clear that Manchester City is currently the best bet to win the Premier League. Liverpool is just too far out of form to catch up to a Manchester City side that has looked undeniable as of late. The other challengers look good now but have all the signs of squandering when it matters most.
My Pick: Manchester City (-225)
