After a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Istanbul Basaksehir earlier in the month, Manchester United will take on the Turkish giants once again this Tuesday, November 24th, kick-off 3:00 PM EST as Champions League football continues this week.

Despite having 69-percent of the possession in the last clash against Istanbul, the Red Devils struggled to net an equalizer in the second half after cutting the deficit to 2-1 at halftime. That was the lone victory for the Turks in this year’s UCL campaign, while United have previously beaten PSG and RB Leipzig.

Red Devils Need Convincing Result

It’s been a dreadful start to the Premier League season for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side, currently sitting in 10th place with a 4-1-3 record. They’ve conceded 14 goals in nine appearances in England while scoring 13. However, they enter this Champions League fixture fresh off a 1-0 victory over West Brom, while also beating a solid Everton team just before the international break.

After winning two straight matches, although the latter wasn’t a great performance, the Red Devils will be feeling confident prior to Tuesday’s meeting with Istanbul, especially considering it will be on home soil. They’ve actually looked quite impressive in Europe so far this season despite their poor form domestically.

Matchday 1 saw Man U beat PSG on the road in Paris behind a Marcus Rashford winner, then Solsksjaer’s men dismantled Bundesliga outfit, Leipzig, at Old Trafford the following week, putting five goals past last year’s Champions League semifinalists.

Rashford has been clinical on the European stage, netting a UCL-best four times in just three appearances, while strike partner Anthony Martial also has two goals to his name. Three points will be very important for the Premier League giants on Tuesday as they face PSG and Leipzig once again to round out the Group stage after this Istanbul tie. With a victory, United will remain at the top of Group H.

Istanbul Looking for Another Upset

After winning the Turkish Super Lig last season, Okan Buruk’s side has actually struggled domestically thus far, currently in sixth spot and a whole seven points off table-toppers Alanyaspor.

Since that historic win over United on November 4th, Istanbul has won just once in three outings, including a 3-2 defeat to rivals Besiktas on Sunday. A red card in the 70th minute ultimately hurt them, conceding a penalty just two minutes later which put them behind for good.

On a more positive note, the magical night in Istanbul against the English giants was their first Champions League win ever. Their recent form hasn’t been great by any means, but they will be feeling hopeful that a positive result could be possible on Tuesday after their previous victory,  especially considering United have won just two competitive matches on home turf this term.

Previous defeats to Leipzig and PSG will put Istanbul in the driver’s seat for this match. If they want any opportunity of somehow advancing out of this group, Buruk’s men will need three points.

As you can see, both sides are in identical form in their last five matches. But, the visitors have lost two straight, while United look to be possibly turning a corner, having won back to back fixtures. It was a massive upset when the Red Devils lost their last clash to Istanbul and given their current form, I don’t see it happening again, especially at Old Trafford.

With a relatively healthy squad except for Paul Pogba who is doubtful, Solskjaer will roll out his first-choice starting XI. Rashford continues to impress on the European stage and will play a vital part in Manchester United’s convincing victory on Tuesday, making backing them on the spread a good bet.

Pick: Manchester United -1.5 (-143), Rashford to score +100
