With just four teams left in the Carabao Cup, there will be a much-anticipated Manchester Derby in one semifinal, with the first leg taking place on Tuesday, December 7 at 3:00 pm EST at Old Trafford between Manchester United and Man City. The Red Devils come into this match after beating Colchester United convincingly 3-0 on December 18th, while Pep Guardiola’s side downed Oxford United 3-1 on the same day.

United are winless in their last two matches, after losing to a rejuvenated Arsenal side in Premier League competition on New Year’s day, then drawing Wolverhampton 0-0 in the FA Cup on Saturday.

City meanwhile, has won three straight fixtures, including a 4-1 victory against fourth-tier side Port Vale over the weekend. Their only two defeats in the past month came by the hands of Wolves and their crosstown rivals, Man United.

Odds taken Jan 5

Although City lost to United on December 7th in Premier League action, they have been playing much better football as of late. With that in mind, they enter this League Cup clash -152 favorites.

United Looking to Win on Home Soil

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side is slowly creeping their way up the Premier League table, now sitting in fifth place, just five points behind Chelsea in fourth. However, they haven’t been playing very well lately, going 2-1-2 in their last five matches, including defeats against Watford and Arsenal.

But they did get the better of City on December 7th, beating them 2-1, despite only having 22 percent of the possession in that clash. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial both netted and that’s going to have to happen once again on Tuesday if they want any chance of winning this first leg against a very good side in Man City. Harry Maguire will need to be solid at center back as well in order to stop the electric attack of City who will definitely be seeking revenge.

City Looking to Capture a Trophy

Man City’s Premier League title hopes look well out of reach with Liverpool 14 points ahead of them, so their focus will shift to other possible trophies. The Champions League is one competition they have never won, therefore that will definitely be their main focus. But the chance to win yet another League Cup trophy will definitely be on their mind.

City has lost just once in their last five matches, looking quite impressive as of late. Even though they lost to United in early December at Old Trafford, they absolutely dominated possession, but a couple of mistakes in their own end proved costly. Their backline will need to be sharp against Solskjaer’s side in order to stop the likes of Marcus Rashford, who is having a banner year with 15 goals to his name already.

City is Best Bet

With Kevin De Bruyne in the best form of his career, while Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus are both finding the net on a regular basis lately, Pep Guardiola’s squad should be able to beat their crosstown rivals across both legs. Their form has dramatically improved since they last met a month ago, so a victory in the first leg shouldn’t be any problem for the defending champions of this competition.

The second leg will take place at the Etihad on Wednesday, January 29th. In the other semifinal, Leicester City will play Aston Villa.

Best Bet: Man City (-152)
