The 2020 MLS season gets underway this weekend and David Beckham’s expansion team Inter Miami are getting a lot of attention. Beckham’s team is featured in their head-to-head props, pitting Inter Miami against Orlando City. Despite heading into their debut season, Miami are favored to enjoy a better campaign than Orlando.

Props are also available on the New York duel between NYCFC and Red Bulls as well as the Galaxy and LAFC in Los Angeles.

Inter Miami vs Orlando City Prop

Team to Be Best Placed Odds
Inter Miami -400
Orlando City +300

All odds taken Feb. 27.

Orlando City are heading into their sixth MLS season. They are yet to make the playoffs and finished 11th in the Eastern Conference last season. Change was inevitable in the off-season – the defense was reinforced and former FC Dallas coach Oscar Pareja was brought in.

Pedro Gallese should be an upgrade in goal, and Antonio Carlos will hopefully form a decent defensive partnership with Robin Jansson. Pareja had an immediate impact in previous jobs, but this Orlando team has a lot of work to do before it can be considered a playoff contender. Aside from Nani, they are short on top-end talent to win them matches.

Paul McDonough, who played a key role in Atlanta United’s brilliant entry to the league, is a major reason why Inter Miami are favored in this matchup. Starting with a clean slate should make it easy to build a well-balanced, deep roster and Miami look to have done just that.

They have a decorated coach in Diego Alonso and a mix of young talent and MLS veterans. The ceiling is high for Miami, and in Rodolfo Pizzaro and Matias Pellegrini, they have the makings of a potent attacking unit.

It’s pretty likely both of these teams miss out on the playoffs. Miami could take time to develop chemistry. Pareja’s work at Dallas gives reason for optimism in Orlando and makes them a decent bet here.

Pick: Orlando City (+300)

New York City FC vs New York Red Bulls Prop

Team to Be Best Placed Odds
New York City FC -350
New York Red Bulls +260

New York City FC enjoyed the best season in their short history in 2019, finishing as the best team in the Eastern Conference, six points clear of second-placed Atlanta United. The roster is much the same, with Ben Sweat the only notable loss, but there’s been another change in the dugout as Ronnie Deila replaces Dome Torrent.

Keeping the team together is a positive, and adding Gedion Zelalem and Gudmundur Thorarinsson is a boost, but changing manager has impacted NYCFC negatively in the past. Deila’s arrival brings uncertainty.

Red Bulls enter the 2020 season looking to extend their playoff streak to an 11th season – it’s a big ask.

Kemar Lawrence, Bradley Wright-Phillips and Luis Robles all departed over the winter. The signings of David Jensen and Mandela Egbo don’t come close to compensating for losing three important, experienced players.

There’s enough quality on this Red Bulls roster to get back to the playoffs, but that’s the most we can expect from them in 2020. It’s very much a period of transition – it would be a shock if they have a better campaign than NYCFC.

Pick: New York City FC (-350)

Los Angeles FC vs Los Angeles Galaxy Prop

Team to Be Best Placed Odds
Los Angeles FC -400
Los Angeles Galaxy +300

After two years of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the Los Angeles Galaxy have a new star striker in Javier Hernandez. The Galaxy face a huge task if they are to outperform their Los Angeles rivals, however, after Los Angeles FC picked up the Supporters’ Shield in 2019, finishing eight points clear of their nearest challengers. LAFC are the favorites for the 2020 MLS Cup.

Galaxy coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto has an array of wonderful attacking players at his disposal. This Galaxy team will be fun to watch, with Jonathan dos Santos dictating play from midfield and the front three of Cristian Pavon, Aleksandar Katai and Chicharito wreaking havoc. The defense is seriously suspect, however. They conceded 59 goals last season and a repeat wouldn’t be all that surprising.

LAFC have the best squad in MLS and, in Carlos Vela, the best player. Getting the most out of all their gifted forwards is probably their greatest challenge. Kenneth Vermeer is a superb signing, providing experience and quality between the sticks. There are concerns about defensive depth, but this LAFC side deserves their status as MLS Cup favorites.

Galaxy’s defensive issues will hold them back, though they might be the most entertaining team in the league. LAFC are rightly MLS Cup favorites, and even at -400, they are the team to back here.

Pick: LAFC (-400)
