  • Barca twice winners of UCL, La Liga and Copa del Rey treble
  • Three more doubles at Nou Camp in past decade
  • Real must hit back under Zidane after “worst season for years”

Just the one trophy? That is all both Barcelona and Real Madrid managed last season.

In the world of Spanish football dominated so emphatically by those two aristocratic clubs, such a haul is never really considered good enough.

Both will be eager to resume their familiar multiple mastery in the coming campaign, with La Liga commencing this weekend

But it is Barca who are favored to win more than one prize rather than troubled Real, whose pre-season has been unimpressive.

An improvement on last season’s one prize is likely. Barcelona pick: La Liga & UCL (+800)

After being thwarted on two fronts in the final run-in last spring, reigning champions Barcelona are priced at +2500 to win a treble of the Champions League, La Liga and Copa del Rey titles.

The most promising looking combination, however, is +800 to win La Liga and the UCL.

Barca’s chances have been boosted by two major summer arrivals – the French World Cup winner Antoine Griezmann and the highly-rated young Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

Add them to an existing line-up including Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Gerard Piquet and Sergio Busquets and it’s easy to see why a treble is feasible.

Barcelona are the only team in European football to have pulled it off more than once.

It doesn’t happen as often as you might perceive, though, given the towering reputations and bulging silverware cabinets of both outfits.

But Barcelona have done it twice in 2008-09 and 2014-15 and are the only team in European football to have pulled it off more than once.

They suffered a stunning defeat by Liverpool in the UCL semifinal. That was followed by a surprise defeat against Valencia in the final of the Copa Del Rey.

Messi and Co. were on the brink of a treble after claiming the La Liga title last April for the second successive season.

But they then suffered a stunning defeat by Liverpool in the UCL semifinal. That was followed by a surprise defeat against Valencia in the final of the Copa del Rey.

Barcelona are priced at +350 for a double triumph in La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

To win the UCL and the Copa Del Rey, it is +1400.

2019-20 Real Madrid Trophy Odds

Result Odds
La Liga & Copa del Rey +550
La Liga & Champions League +1600
Copa del Rey & Champions League +2000
La Liga, Copa del Rey & Champions League +5000

The need to bury last season will drive Real forward. Real Madrid pick: Copa del Rey & UCL +2000

Triple Triumph Eludes Real

Real, meanwhile, are rated at +5000 to win all three of the major competitions they contest. It is a feat they have never managed before.

A double of the UCL and the Copa del Rey at +2000 looks most promising  for Real.

Real will  be desperate to win any one of the three key competitions this time around having lifted only the low-key FIFA Club World Cup last season – which was described as one of the worst in their history.

They have staged a major-rebuilding program this summer with the £80 million arrival of playmaker Eden Hazard from Chelsea the key signing.

Coach Targets La Liga

Under-fire coach Zinedine Zidane is prioritizing La Liga. Their preparations have been unimpressive, however.

In seven pre-season friendlies, they won just twice. A humiliating 7-3 defeat by Atletico Madrid in the USA was a particular low-point.

Four Recent UCL Triumphs

Real’s price for a domestic double of La Liga and Copa del Rey is +550.

They are rated at +1000 to win La Liga and the UCL. They have won the premier European prize four times in the past six seasons.

But they finished first in La Liga only twice in the most recent 11 campaigns, with Barca triumphant eight times during that period.

In the past decade, Barcelona have won three doubles to add to their two trebles.

They won the UCL and La Liga in 2010/11. There were La Liga and Copa del Rey wins in in 2015/16 and 2017/18.

During the same spell, Real have delivered two doubles.

They won the UCL and the Copa del Rey in 2013-14. They won La Liga and the UCL in 2016-17.
