This is the fourth time PSG has won their first three matches in a group in the competition and the second time they have achieved this in three seasons.
Under-Achievement After Group Success
However, they have under-achieved after successful starts. They were eliminated in the round of 16 in the last three seasons.
In the four prior seasons to that, they made their exit at the quarterfinal stage.
These disappointments have inspired a renewed determination to make a serious impact in the competition this season more in keeping with the club’s wealth and might.
The tie in Belgium last month was the first meeting between Brugge and PSG.
As well as scoring five on that evening, PSG are clearly in a ravenous mood all-round. They had scored four in each of their most recent three wins in Ligue 1; by 4-0 at home against Angers, 4-1 away at Nice and 4-0 at home against Marseille.
