On the eve of the new English Premier League, in addition to traditional winner/to-be-relegated markets, sportsbooks are also offering bettors the chance to bet on the 2019/20 Golden Boot winner. With last season’s being a three-way tie, this is a tough one to call but potentially offers some great value.

The one that really sticks out here is Raheem Sterling, whose odds have really adjusted this past month and have come in from +2500, now down to +1400. But can Sterling realistically beat the likes of Kane and Salah? We’ll take a look.

City Trio Certain to Feature

Given that Manchester City are hot favorites to win the EPL again and have a style of play that creates bundles of goalscoring opportunities, it’s no surprise that their three main strikers, including Sterling, are featured in the front-runners in the EPL Golden Boot odds.

At 6/1, Sergio Aguero is well worth a look and it’s worth noting he finished last season just a single goal behind the three joint-winners – Salah, Aubamayang and Mane – who all ended the campaign on 22. With his ammunition being provided by Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, David Silva and co, he will be given the best supply of chances in the division.

The same also applies, of course, to Sterling and Jesus but if Guardiola persists with Aguero as his main striker then he’ll be the main beneficiary and will be well placed to win the Golden Boot. Sterling, for me, is fairly priced at +1400 as despite him nabbing a fine total of 17 last season, he isn’t recognized as a natural goalscorer.

Jesus is a tricky one to call as he so often plays second fiddle to Aguero, but if Guardiola was to give him an extended run in the City team he would undoubtedly score goals at a similar rate to the Argentinian. At +3300 there are worse bets for those who like a gamble.

Liverpool’s Strikers Late Starters

Liverpool, as City’s main challengers, will also be among the league’s leading scorers and so Salah and Mane are almost certain to be in the frame. Both though have spent a sizeable chunk of the summer playing for their countries in the Africa Cup of Nations and so may not feature in the first few games of the season.

This may mean a slow start for both, but Salah and Mane will definitely be in the mix.

Harry Kane is another who, if he stays fit, will almost certainly lead the way in this market. His 17 goals scored last campaign were interrupted by two serious injuries to the same ankle, but a full season will surely take him close to the 30-goal mark and will throw down a serious challenge to the rest.

Best of yhe Rest

The Arsenal pairing of Pierre-Emerick Aubamayang and Alexandre Lacazette will also be looking to be among the contenders for the Golden Boot – and Aubamayang’s 22 goals in a difficult season was very impressive – but much depends here on how well Emery’s team perform, and the impact of new signing Nicolas Pepe, who’s also interestingly priced at 33/1.

The best of the rest is undoubtedly Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy who has consistently been near the top of the Golden Boot charts for the last five seasons. Even in a Leicester team that’s not going to challenge the top six, Vardy will score goals helped by a creative midfield behind him.

The pick: Sadio Mane (+1200)
