Two of Europe’s leading national sides clash in the meeting of Spain vs Portugal in the UEFA Nations League.

Both teams are heading to the World Cup in Qatar later this year and will view this as a vital part of their preparations as they are among the favorites in the World Cup odds.

Portugal was the winner of the inaugural edition of the competition in 2019 while Spain was runner-up to France in last year’s final.

Over/Under & Spread

The last three meetings of Spain vs Portugal have ended in draws – two goalless friendlies following a 3-3 share-out at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Meanwhile, the last team to win was Spain which triumphed 1-0 in a meeting at the 2012 Euros.

That makes the total goals prop offer for there to be only a single goal – or none at all – an attractive one at a price of +220 (Un 1.5).

The spread offer, meanwhile, offers good value on taking a chance on Spain winning by two or more goals – with a price of +300 (Asian Handicap -1.25).

Portugal has not won a competitive match against the Spanish since the 2004 Euros tournament, which was staged in Portugal. And it has never won in Spain.

Spain vs Portugal Prediction

This Spain vs Portugal game kicks off in the Estadio Benito Villamarin at 2:45 pm ET.

Since its 2-1 defeat by France in the Nations League final in Milan last October, Spain has won four successive games.

This is the opening game in the Nations League’s Group A2 with Switzerland vs the Czech Republic making up the four-team section.

Spain won its World Cup qualifying group with six wins, one draw, and one defeat.

Meanwhile, Portugal was forced to secure its place via a play-off – defeating Turkey 3-1 at home and then overcoming North Macedonia by 2-0, also at home.

Now Spain vs Portugal in Seville will provide a glamorous start to the third edition of the Nations League competition.

Furthermore, Portugal was surprisingly beaten 2-1 at home by Serbia in a World Cup qualifier last November – forcing it into its two subsequent wins in the Playoffs.

Cristiano Ronaldo to Score Odds

As ever, the Portuguese will be looking to veteran Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo in the goalscoring stakes.

At +200, he is the most favored Portugal player to find the net.

However, he is only the third favorite to hit the target in Spain vs Portugal.

Surprisingly, the player most favored to find the net at +185 is Espanyol striker Raul De Tomas, even though he has only two caps and no international goals.

However, he seems unlikely to start the game.

There is better value offered by the price of +195 for seasoned international Alvaro Morata to be on target.

He scored twice in Spain’s most recent fixture, a 5-0 friendly defeat of Iceland – with one from the penalty spot.

And he has been on target three times in the current run of four straight wins.

In total, Morata – who spent last season on loan at Juventus from Atletico Madrid and could be headed to Arsenal – has scored 25 times in 52 appearances for his country.

The Sporting Lisbon forward Pablo Sarabia also scored twice in the defeat of Iceland.

He is offered at an attractive +310 to get on the scoresheet during Spain vs Portugal.

Spain vs Portugal Potential Line-Ups & Injuries

Spain vs Portugal Pick

Portugal has only lost once in its 12 fixtures in the Nations League since the competition began – with eight wins and three draws.

So it is likely to be in a competitive frame of mind in Seville.

It is also unbeaten away from home in the competition, with three wins and two goalless draws.

However, Spain is looking to score five consecutive wins for the first time since September 2019 as it aims to lay down a marker ahead of the World Cup.

That means both teams will be powerfully motivated. And, in conclusion, a draw seems the most likely outcome.

Pick Draw +220
