One of the more exciting Matchday 24 clashes will feature Valencia and Atletico Madrid on Friday, February 14th, kick-off at 3:00 pm EST. These two sides played to a 1-1 draw at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in Madrid back in October. With Valencia currently just two points behind Atleti, it will be a chance for the home side to move into the top four if they can secure the full three points on Friday.

Atletico Madrid pk,-0.5 (+111) +151 Un 2,2.5 (-135)

Odds taken Feb 12

The odds are quite even for this fixture, given their recent results against each other. They’ve tied twice in their last three meetings, so there’s also a very low moneyline for the possibility of a draw.

Can Valencia Move Into Top Four?

Alberto Celades’ side has won their last three home fixtures and will be looking to keep that trend going on Friday. In that span, they kept two clean sheets and even beat Barcelona 2-0 on January 25th at the Mestalla. However, they’re fresh off a 3-0 defeat against third-place Getafe after they scored three goals in the second half.

Los Che also lost to Granada in the Copa del Rey last week, making it two consecutive losses. Although they haven’t beat Atleti since 2014, their current record on home soil could definitely play a part in this match as they search for the full three points that can push them into the top four of La Liga.

With Champions League football ahead next week with Valencia taking on Atalanta, a positive result this Friday will be crucial if they want to head into the round of 16 of European competition with momentum. Rodrigo is back and healthy and should definitely make an impact in the final third for Celades’ squad against Atletico.

Atletico Prepare for Huge UCL Clash

Just like Valencia, Atleti will be looking for a positive result as they head into Champions League competition against Liverpool next week. That will be no easy task by any means, so Simeone’s squad really needs a victory this weekend in order to gain more confidence as they prepare for arguably the best team in the world in Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Atletico has been very successful against Valencia in recent memory, failing to lose against their La Liga counterparts since October of 2014. They haven’t been in the best form lately though, narrowly securing a 1-0 win over Granada over the weekend. They’ve now won just once in their last five matches.

Diego Simeone is expecting Diego Costa, Alvaro Morata, and Joao Felix all back within the next seven days, which will be a huge boost to his squad. For now, Angel Correa has filled in nicely up top, scoring four times and tallying five assists in 18 appearances. Transfer window signing Yannick Carrasco should also see minutes on the pitch this weekend.

Draw is Best Bet

Both of these teams haven’t been scoring much lately, and Valencia has done a great job of keeping opponents off the scoresheet at Mestalla Stadium. Atletico has only bagged 23 goals in as many games because of injuries to Morata and Costa, but they’ve also conceded just 15, which is the best in La Liga. Atleti has struggled to score but their backline has also been extremely solid. Valencia meanwhile, has scored just once in their last six matches. With these recent results in mind for both sides, I expect them to play to a 1-1 draw.

Draw: +205
