After a very impressive two seasons in the MLS, Wayne Rooney is back home as a player-coach for Derby County in England’s second tier. The 34-year old scored 23 goals and tallied 15 assists in 48 appearances across two years in the US. He’s one of the most decorated Premier League stars of all-time, currently sitting second to just Alan Shearer with most goals in England’s top flight, netting 208 times between stints with Everton and Manchester United.
With Rooney set to join Derby on Thursday for his first match with his new club, books have released several different props for Rooney’s fortunes with the Championship side. With Rooney now in his mid-30s, it’s hard to imagine he will have much of a role on the pitch with Derby, most likely serving primarily as a substitute. However, he will be a great mentor to younger players, bringing a wealth of knowledge to the table.
Odds for Rooney to Score Hat-Trick at Derby County

Yes | +600 |
No | -1500 |
All odds taken Dec 31
As you can see, Rooney has very unlikely odds to bag a hat-trick with Derby County during the second half of their season. Although his numbers in the MLS were outstanding, it’s definitely going to be a slight transition for him playing against a much better caliber of players. Rooney has six hat-tricks to his name during his Premier League career, but after two years in the US, a hat-trick is definitely going to be a tough task for him with Derby.

Odds Rooney Scores and is Carded in First Match
Result | Odds |
---|---|
Yes | +800 |
No | -2500 |
We all know that Rooney has always been a clinical finisher, but his temper has led to him getting carded a ton during his footballing career. In just two seasons with DC United, he was sent off twice and also racked up six yellow cards. In 16 Premier League seasons, Rooney collected 103 yellow cards and three reds.
With England, he was also red-carded twice along with 11 more yellows. He can be a dirty player at times, so I believe he will definitely get a few yellows in the second half of the season with Derby, but it may not happen in his first match. Rooney is always capable of creating moments of brilliance in the final third, but its highly unlikely that he will find the back of the net in his debut.

Odds Rooney is Sent Off in First Appearance
Result | Odds |
---|---|
Yes | +3300 |
Despite Rooney being a hothead, his first match back in England should just be him getting back in the groove of playing regular football again, whether he’s in the starting eleven or not.
The likelihood of him getting sent off on Thursday is doubtful, with +3300 odds. Given his nature on the pitch, a yellow card is definitely possible, but a red is not.

Over/Under Odds for Goals Scored in Championship
Total Goals Scored | Odds |
---|---|
Over 6.5 Goals | -120 |
Under 6.5 Goals | -120 |
Books have released interesting odds for the number of goals Rooney could score with Derby in 2020. He currently has -120 odds to go “Under” and “Over” 6.5 goals. No one really knows how he’ll respond on the pitch with a return back to England, but this could be the perfect club for him to end up at.

After an outstanding season last year with Frank Lampard at the helm, Derby is in shambles this season, sitting in 17th place right now. They have scored just one goal per match this term, so they could definitely use some help on the attack.
Pick: 6 goals (Under)
Odds Rooney Makes 2020 England Squad
Result | Odds |
---|---|
Yes | +5000 |
It’s outrageous to even think Rooney could make a return to the National team at the age of 34. As you can see by the odds, it’s an absolute longshot at +5000. The Three Lions could have one of the most talented groups of players they’ve ever had, so there is definitely no room for Rooney. Although he was once a wonderful talent for his country, the likes of Harry Kane, Jadon Sancho, and Raheem Sterling, just to name a few, have taken over for England.
