- The 2020 WTA season starts the first week of January, with the Australian Open happening at the end of the month
- Bianca Andreescu, Naomi Osaka, and Simona Halep’s odds are all currently favored to win zero Grand Slams in 2020
- All three players won a Grand Slam in 2019
Heading into the 2020 season, no one has been favoring any player on the WTA tour. Below you can see that Andreescu, Osaka, and Halep are all favored to win zero Grand Slams. And Serena Williams and Ashleigh Barty are also favored at zero.
Yes, 2019 was a very unpredictable year for the WTA, but if not one of these five players are favored to win a Grand Slam, who is? Andreescu, Osaka, and Halep all went on to win one of the four Grand Slams this year.
Bianca Andreescu 2020 Grand Slam Wins Odds
Grand Slam Wins | Odds |
---|---|
Zero | -150 |
Exactly 1 | +175 |
Exactly 2 | +600 |
Exactly 3 | +2500 |
4 | +6600 |

Bianca Andreescu had her break out season in 2019. After winning Indian Wells, people started focusing on her and her matches, and after winning her first Grand Slam, at the US Open, all eyes were on her and she became a household name.
The 19-year old didn’t have the end to the 2019 or the start to the 2020 season that she had hoped for. She recently announced she’s withdrawn from the ASB Classic in Auckland due to ongoing knee issues. Her -150 odds to win zero Grand Slams doesn’t seem fair after the season she just had, including winning her first Grand Slam.
Many have said that defending Grand Slams are much more difficult than winning them initially. But if Andreescu is able to come out strong right at the beginning of the season, and stay healthy, she will be able to continue her success into the 2020 season.

Naomi Osaka 2020 Grand Slam Win Odds
Grand Slam Wins | Odds |
---|---|
Zero | -200 |
Exactly 1 | +200 |
Exactly 2 | +700 |
Exactly 3 | +3300 |
4 | +10000 |
Naomi Osaka heads into the 2020 season ranked No. 3 in the world. Throughout the majority of the 2019 season she held the No. 1 or No. 2 spot. Osaka won the Australian Open earlier this year and moved to the No. 1 spot. But it seemed that she wasn’t able to secure much else with the No. 1 ranking.
Maybe coming into the 2020 season with a little less pressure will prove to be a benefit for the 22-year old. Osaka is considered one of the best in the world, and her -200 odds to win zero Grand Slams doesn’t seem right after coming off a year where she has won one. Osaka will be heading into 2020 with a new coach, Wim Fissette, after going through a couple of coaches in 2019, including her father. It’ll be interesting to see what happens there, but it would make sense to keep an eye on her ranking and how she is performing under pressure.

Simona Halep 2020 Grand Slam Win Odds
Grand Slam Wins | Odds |
---|---|
Zero | -175 |
Exactly 1 | +185 |
Exactly 2 | +650 |
Exactly 3 | +2800 |
4 | +10000 |
Simona Halep won Wimbledon in 2019, after defeating Serena Williams. The 28-year old has won two Grand Slams in her career, and finished the 2019 season ranked No. 4 in the world. Halep has recently announced that she won’t be competing in the Fed Ex Cup to prepare for the Olympics, but it’s safe to assume that she’ll compete in all four Grand Slams as long as she’s healthy. The only concern would be that all her focus will be on the Olympics in 2020.
There were a lot of newcomers that made a splash this year, but Halep has always been apart of the mix. This is her sixth year in a row with a top-four finish. Halep will also have the return of her coach, Darren Cahill, who parted ways at the end of 2018, with Cahill taking the season off to spend time with his family. The two had a successful time together, so it won’t be a surprise is Halep comes out strong at the beginning of the season.
