Defending Champion

24-year old Ostapenko will look to defend her title as she takes on Tauson tomorrow. She has yet to drop a single set on her way to the final match, and most recently defeated seventh seed Liudmila Samsonova to earn a spot in her second consecutive final here in Luxembourg.

She went on to beat Samsonova 6-1, 7-6(4). After going up 6-1 to take the first set, she continued her momentum with a 5-1 lead in the second. But it was then that her opponent started to piece together a comeback evening the set at 5-5. Fast forward to the tiebreak, where Samsonova went up 4-1. But Ostapenko won six points in a row to finish up the match, and move onto the finals.

This will now be Ostapenko’s second final of the year.

Unseeded to the Finals

18-year old Tauson is continuing her career defining season as she competes in another final in 2021. It was earlier this year where she collected her first career title, winning the 2021 Lyon Open.

Tauson’s only dropped two sets over the course of her four matches she’s played. And she’s gone on to up seed fourth seed Ekaterina Alexandrova, and most recently fifth seed Marketa Vondrousova. She defeated Vondrousova 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in the semifinals.

Tauson came out strong in her semifinal match, but found herself having to regroup when her opponent took the second set to force a decider. She managed and was able to come out to dominate the third set.

Head-to-Head

As mentioned, this is the first meeting between these two players, with their head-to-head record standing at 0-0.

Best Bet

This should be an interesting match between Ostapenko and Tauson. Both are aggressive players who like to rely on their strong forehands from the baseline.

Ostapenko obviously enters this match with a bit more experience than Tauson. The 24-year old is no stranger here, and her previous success and experience in Luxembourg could prove to be enough to earn her a back-to-back title.

Tauson will look to put up a fight, but it doesn’t seem like it will be enough to stop Ostapenko from collecting another title.

Best Bet: Ostapenko to win 2-0 (+165)
