  • Stefanos Tsitsipis is the -310 favorite over Lorenzo Musetti in their STP Barcelona Open semifinal match on Saturday, April 22
  • Tsitsipas defeated Alex De Minaur in straight sets in their quarterfinal match
  • Musetti won by walkover against Jannik Sinner and is the underdog in the Musetti vs Tsitsipas odds

Will Lorenzo Musetti be the next victim of Stefanos Tsitsipas on the latter’s road to redemption? We have the Musetti vs Tsitsipas odds and prediction here.

A two-time defending champion at Monte Carlo, Tsitsipas came to the ATP Barcelona Open off a stunning quarterfinal setback to Taylor Fritz in last week’s ATP Monte Carlo Masters 1000 event.

He’s playing a man intent or earning a reign in Spain. Through three matches at Barcelona, #2 seed Tsitsipas hasn’t dropped a set while dispatching a pair of seeded players along the way.

Next up for him in the semifinals is Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti, the #9 seed. Musetti won his quarterfinal match against Jannik Sinner via walkover.

It’s Tsitsipas that oddsmakers are liking in this match. The Greek player is a solid -310 favorite to advance to the finals in the Musetti vs Tsitsipas picks.

Tsitsipas a Man On a Mission

Seeking his first ATP title of the season, world #5 Tsitsipas is making short work of opponents. He dropped just six games in bouncing #5 seed Alex De Minaur 6-4, 6-2 in just and hour and 21 minutes.

He beat 14th-seeded Denis Shapovalov 6-3, 6-2 in the Round of 16. Argentina’s Pedro Cachin fell to Tsitsipas 6-4, 6-2 in the opening round.

The Greek is a two-time Barcelona finalist, losing to Rafael Nadal in 2018 and 2021. Nadal isn’t playing this week, so if Tsitsipas reaches the final, he won’t have the Spanish superstar standing in his way this time.

Musetti Walks Past Sinner

The all-Italian quarterfinal between Musetti and Jannik Sinner never came to be. Sinner arrived in Barcelona not in the best of health. He’s been slowed by both back and thigh issues but it was illness to that put him out this time.

Sinner was forced to withdraw and Musetti won the match in a walkover.

Musetti vs Tsitsipas Match History

Year Tournament Surface Score Winner
2022 French Open (R128) Outdoor Clay 5-7, 4-6 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 Tsitsipas
2022 ATP Lyon (SF) Outdoor Clay 4-6, 6-3, 6-0 Tsitsipas
2021 ATP Acapulco (SF) Outdoor Hard 6-1, 6-3 Tsitsipas

The journey to this point for Musetti hasn’t been nearly as smooth sailing as what Tsitsipas has enjoyed. Musetti required a rally to beat Britain’s Cameron Norrie 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the Round of 16.

He was a 6-3, 6-1 straight-set winner over Australia’s Jason Kubler in opening-round play.

Tsitsipas vs Musetti Prediction

A year ago at this time, Musetti was ranked #68 in the world, so it’s been a breakthrough season for him since that time. However, 2023 has not been going as well for the Italian. He was treading water at 9-9 entering this tournament. Musetti is in a semifinal of an ATP event for the first time since getting to the final at Brisbane in January.

Both players play similar games, preferring a baseline style. However, Tsitsipas is the more consistent performer. He’s also a dominant clay performer. Tsitsipas has won four titles and is 82-26. Musetti is 37-22 and has won one title.

Tsitsipas and Musetti have clashed three times previous. Each time, the Greek player has come out ahead. This will be their third meeting on clay and their third match at the semifinal stage of a tournament.

While Tsitsipas has been the winner each time, on the clay court the matches have been close calls. He needed five sets to dispatch Musetti at the French Open and three sets at Lyon, both played last year.

Based on those results, we’re going to go with over 21.5 games as the Musetti vs Tsitsipas prediction here.

Musetti vs Tsitsipas Pick: Over 21.5 games (-110); Tsitsipas 2-1 (+295)
