  • The 2020 Australian Open is the first of the four Grand Slams to be played and takes place at the end of January 2020
  • Naomi Osaka is the defending champion
  • Serena Williams is still the favorite to win the tournament, despite being ranked 10th in the world

The WTA has had an unpredictable 2019 season. Many different players have won tournaments throughout this season, with the younger generation really making a name for themselves. But despite not having the best 2019 season, Serena Williams is still the favorite to win the 2020 Australian Open. Her Australian Open Odds have stayed between +300 and +500 throughout the year. A name that wasn’t anywhere near the top of the odds earlier this year was Bianca Andreescu, who’s had a breakout season, and now has average odds of +630 to win the Aussie Open and as low as 6-1 odds.

The Next Generation

Unlike the men’s side, where there’s a big three, the women’s side doesn’t really have that. In the past few years, the younger generation has really started to make a splash. This year alone, Naomi Osaka is the Australian Open defending champ, winning the Grand Slam at 21-years old. Ashleigh Barty won the French Open at 22-years old. And Bianca Andreescu won the US Open at just 19-years old.

Serena Williams is still one of the greatest athletes and tennis players ever to play the game, and she’s always a force on the court. But we all saw this season how injury got the better of her in some important matches, and how some young players were able to get the better of her later in the season.

2020 Australian Open Best Bet

But is either Serena Williams or Bianca Andreescu a good bet to win the Australian Open? Based on how the second half of the 2019 season went, Andreescu seems to be the better bet to win the Aussie Open. The only issue she faces is the amount of injuries she’s battled at such a young age. But this young gun has already won a Grand Slam, and she won it against one of the best, Serena Williams.

This time last year, no one predicted what was going to happen with the likes of Ashleigh Barty, Bianca Andreescu, and Naomi Osaka. But as Andreescu continues to climb up the world rankings, ending the year ranked No. 5 in the world, she is the best bet right now to win the 2020 Australian Open, despite not being the favorite.

Best Bet: Bianca Andreescu +600
