Simona Halep

Halep has dropped just one set this tournament and each of her last three matches have been blowouts. She beat Elina Svitolina 6-1, 6-3 in the semifinals, after dominating the second set in the quarters against Shuai Zhang 6-1. The sweetheart of this year’s Wimbledon, 15-year-old American Coco Gauff, was no match for Halep in the Round of 16.

Serena Williams

Now 37, Williams is seeking her first major win since the Australian Open in 2017. She is hoping to become the fourth women to win a major after becoming a mother.

Serena has won Wimbledon seven times. A victory this year would tie her with Helen Wills Moody for the second most victories at the All England Club. Martina Navratilova won on nine occasions.

Williams has lost two sets at Wimbledon this year. After a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 quarterfinal win over Alison Riske, Serena threaded veteran Barbora Strýcová 6-1, 6-2 in the semis.

Head to Head

This is the eleventh meeting between Halep and Williams with Serena prospering nine times.

Williams has won the last five meetings including a three set affair at this year’s Australian Open.

Their only battle at Wimbledon came in 2011. Halep won the first set but Williams took care of business 6-2, 6-1 to win the match.

Betting the Wimbledon Final

Betting odds give Serena about a 65% chance of winning. We’d love to bet on Halep, but +159 is not enough enticement to bet on the inferior player. This is not the Williams of a decade ago, but she is chasing history, and remains the stronger and more athletic player. Williams on the moneyline (-179) and over, since Serena tends to make things interesting.
