Pick 1: [26] Sloane Stephens vs [3] Serena Williams

Serena Williams’ quest for her 24th major singles title is still alive after she defeated Margarita Gasparyan to advance to the third round of the US Open. This third round match is bound to be a battle.

For most of her second round match, Williams’ dominated the play, but she lost control of the match for a moment when she watched her lead go from 6-2, 4-2, to 6-2, 4-4, as well as facing a breakpoint. Despite the minor setback, she defeated Gasparyan 6-2, 6-4.

Stephens cruised her way to the third round with a commanding 6-2, 6-2 victory over Olga Govortsova. In just 66 minutes, Stephens was very composed from start to finish, never trailing, and collecting 23 winners.

Williams’ leads Stephens in their head-to-head record at 5-1. Stephens one and only win happened way back at the 2013 Australian Open, but the two haven’t seen each other since the 2015 French Open.

This would have been a match that would have been amazing to see being played in front of fans since both players really give into the crowd. But either way, it will be a competitive match, that is expected to go three sets.

Best Bet: Williams (-315)

Pick 2: [27] Ons Jabeur vs [2] Sofia Kenin

The 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin, has found her form again. The 21-year old broke out in January but saw herself fall off her winning ways when the season resumed. But since entering the US Open, she has pushed aside the rust.

Kenin made her way to the third round of the US Open rather comfortably with a 6-2, 6-3 win in the first round, and a 6-4, 6-3 win in the second. She has very solid when serving, having yet to be broken in 17 games played.

Jabeur has been very consistent this year holding a 16-7 heading into the US Open. She has yet to drop a set at the tournament, beating her opponents 6-2, 7-6(6) and 7-6(8), 6-0.

Kenin holds a strong 4-1 lead in their head-to-head record, with their most recent match being played at the Australian Open earlier this year. Jabeur’s only win against Kenin came in 2017. Kenin looks to be the best bet here, and she might even do it in straight sets.

Best Bet: Kenin (-215)

Pick 3: [15] Maria Sakkari vs [22] Amanda Anisimova

Both Maria Sakkari and Amanda Anisimova had to fight back from a set down to earn their way to the third round of the US Open. The two are very similar players, and this match will be really interesting to see unfold.

Sakkari has been considered a potential dark horse at the 2020 US Open, after beating Serena Williams at the Western & Southern Open last week. In the second round, the Greek player had to fight hard to turn things are after losing the first set 2-6. She clearly didn’t let that get into her head, as she stepped up her backcourt game. She avoided three breakpoint chances and was able to break her opponent, Bernarda Pera’s serve to advance.

Anisimova beat Katrina Scott 6-4, 4-6, 1-6 to advance to the third round. She hasn’t had the best year thus far, and like Sakkari, she did have a strong start to her match. She was able to pull through and managed to find a break in the first game of the final set to secure the win.

This will be the first time these two have seen each other on the court. This might be the most interesting and even match of the day. Both players are similarly ranked, Sakkari ranked 22 and Anisimova ranked 28, and have actually had a pretty equal tournament so far. Anisimova is the favorite to win with -120 odds, but Sakkari is looking to be the best bet here. Expect the match to go three sets.

Best Bet: Sakkari (-105)
