Something’s gotta give at the Cincinnati Open semifinal Saturday, as #3 seed Alexander Zverev of Germany takes on Spain’s Carlos Alcarez, the 2-seed.

Zverev has ripped off 16 wins in his last 18 matches in Cincy, while Alcarez has reeled off 15 straight wins in ATP Masters 1000 events.

The German has the advantage in head-to-head play, but Zverev might not be in peak condition for this one, a reason he’s the betting ‘dog when this one gets underway at 6 pm ET from P&G Center Court, with the Tennis Channel providing the broadcast coverage.

Zverev vs Alcaraz Picks & Prediction

  • Over 22.5 Games (-115)

Zverez crushed American Ben Shelton 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinal in a cool hour and 17 minutes. He punished Shelton’s second serve, winning 15 of 19 points, while winning a cool 81% of his first serve points, getting broken just once.

However, Zverev’s health is a concern, as he called for a doctor at 2-1 in the second set, as he appeared to be struggling with his breathing.

Weather could play a factor Saturday, as temperatures are expected to a balmy 33 degrees with 42% humidity when the match begins. The books seem to agree, as they have Zverev as the clear underdog, despite having won five of the last seven hard-court matches with Alcaraz.

* tournament final

Alcaraz got to the semis with a 3-set win over #9 Andrey Rublev, in a match where his focus appeared to dip when he dropped the second set.

It’s the 10th time this year he’s dropped the second set after winning the first in a best-of-three-set match, and fortunately, he’s been hardly stung, coming away with nine victories.

Because of Zverev’s recent run of hard-court success vs Alcaraz, it’s unlikely the Spaniard is looking ahead to a potential final against No. 1 ranked Jannik Sinner. It would mark the fourth straight final between tennis’ current best men’s players.

Zverev and Alcaraz have played each other tough, and assuming Zverev’s health holds up, there’s the potential for another tight matchup, which would favor betting the total.

These two have topped 22.5 games in three of their last four 3-set matches. If Alcaraz’s focus wanes, that opens the door for a 3-setter, and an easy betting win.
