Week 1 NFL Betting Outlook

Finally, football season is upon us, and the NFL week one will start with tremendous games between teams that can actually be considered contenders. However, in order to make the right bet here are some numbers and stats we tracked down, so you have it easier.

Thursday:

Green Bay Packers @ Seattle Seahawks | 8:30 PM ET

Opening Line: Seahawks -5.5

Current Line: Seahawks 5.5

Game Total: 45.5

• The last times these two teams met was in the 2012 season where on a Monday Night Football game, the Seahawks won the matchup on a blown call by the replacement refs.
• Since the NFL scheduled the Super Bowl champions to open the season in 2004, the champs are 8-2 in those games, but 0-2 in the last two seasons.
• Green Bay is 2-7-1 ATS in its last ten games
• Seattle is 1-3-1 ATS in its last five games when playing at home against Green Bay

Sunday Big Games:

New Orleans Saints @ Atlanta Falcons | 1 PM ET

Opening Line: Falcons -1.5

• QB Drew Brees is 13-4 against the Atlanta Falcons in 17 career games. Keep in mind, he only played one-quarter in the preseason due to an oblique injury.
• QB Matt Ryan is 3-8 against the New Orleans Saints in 11 career games.
• New Orleans is 4-1 SU in its last five games when playing on the road against Atlanta.
• Atlanta is 1-6 SU in its last seven games when playing New Orleans.

Cincinnati Bengals @ Baltimore Ravens | 1 PM ET

Opening Line: Ravens -2.5

Current Line: Ravens -2

Game total: 42.5

• Ravens QB Joe Flacco is 7-5 on 12 career games against the Bengals.
• Baltimore won’t have RB Ray Rice for the first two games of the season.
• Bengals QB Andy Dalton is 2-4 in 6 career games against Baltimore.
• Cincinnati is 2-6-1 ATS in its last nine games on the road.
• Baltimore is 21-4 SU in its last 25 games at home.

San Francisco 49ers @ Dallas Cowboys | 4:25 PM ET

Opening Line: 49ers -3.5

• The 49ers have reached the NFC Championship games over the last three seasons.
• In 2013, the Dallas Cowboys had the worst defense in NFL history.
• Cowboys QB Tony Romo had a back surgery in the offseason.
• San Francisco is 7-1-2 ATS in its last ten games on the road.
• Dallas is 6-13 ATS in its last 19 games at home.
• The total has gone OVER in 5 of Dallas’s last five games when playing at home against San Francisco.

Indianapolis Colts @ Denver Broncos | 8:30 PM ET

Opening Line: Broncos -6.5

Current Line: Broncos -7

Game total: 55

• These two teams met last year also on a Sunday Night matchup; the Colts won, giving the Broncos their first loss of the 2013 season.
• Denver is 0-5 ATS in its last five games when playing Indianapolis.

• The St. Louis Rams won’t have LB/DE Michael Sam in their roster as they cut him. The Rams, however, have arguably the best defensive line in the NFL recording 53 sacks in 2013.

• There are not many games between the Jaguars and the Eagles; curiously Philadelphia trails the series 1-3.

Oakland Raiders @ NY Jets | 1 PM ET

• With an average age of 27.0, the Raiders are the oldest team in the NFL and have 11 straight losing seasons.
• Both head coaches in this game, Dennis Allen (OAK) and Rex Ryan (NYJ) are coaching for their jobs this season.

Buffalo Bills @ Chicago Bears | 1 PM ET

• The Chicago Bears lead the series 7-4 in 11 games played between these two franchises. The last time they met Chicago won 22-19 in 2010.

• Carolina is 15-7 SU in its last 22 games when playing Tampa Bay.

Monday Night Matchups:

NY Giants @ Detroit Lions | 7:10 PM ET

• NY Giants QB is 8-4 in Monday Night Football appearances with 21 TDs and 15 INTs.
• After leading the NFL in interception thrown last season, Eli Manning completed less than 50% on his passes is in the preseason. Not good, not good all.
• Lions QB Matthew Stafford has played only three games on MNF with a 1-2 record, 4 TDs and 5 INTs.

San Diego Chargers @ Arizona Cardinals | 10:20 PM ET

• Chargers QB Philip Rivers 8-5 in 13 Monday Night Football matchups on his career, with 24 TDs and 10 INTs, along with a 98.9 passer rating.
• Cardinals QB Carson Palmer is 2-4 in MNF games  with 7 TDs and 4 INT and an 84.7 passer rating.
• Arizona is 2-7 SU in its last nine games when playing San Diego.
